    What's my OLED telly worth?

    Hi All,
I have an LG 55ef950v. We're having our house stripped back to bare plaster and redecorated, and the plan was to put the TV on a VESA bracket, but it turns out that this particular unit has a weird wall mount. Rather than spend money on a new mount I was considering just selling the telly and getting a newer one.

Anyone have any idea what this is worth? No dead pixels etc and the only reason I'm considering parting with it at all is the whole wall mounting thing.

No idea, but had to look up the lack of VESA.

    Yes, it's true. Unbelievable

Some people on AVForums claim they managed to get around it with a metal bar from B&Q:

Didn't mention whether by drilling holes they meant tapping, but with a drill stand/press getting good holes even in aluminium might be tricky.

Yeah, it's bonkers - I've found an adapter bracket - but it's £50 + shipping from Germany, and then presumably import tax etc etc.

Re: What's my OLED telly worth?

I don't know what it's worth, I'm afraid, beyond to point out that new LG 55" OLED, from John Lewis, seem to vary from just under £1000 to about £1600. This suggests a fair bit of variation with the 55" LG OLED category, presumably due to exact spec. That is, of course, with standard consumer protections, and their 5-yr warranty.

I'm given to understand conventional wisdom is that decent quality (and brand) TVs are assumed to have a 5-7 year likely life, so start from that £1000-£1600 range and knock off, pro-rata, however many years old yours is. Then, allow for it being a private sale with likely (unless it is transferable, which warranties usually aren't) no recourse to the retailer warranty, or consumer protection, and it'll knock it down another large chunk.

It does, of course, depend on the buyer but that is why I rarely buy anything like that other than brand new - by the time I get to a price I feel used goods are worth, sellers often seem to think it's a "cheeky" offer, when in fact all it reflects is my preference for risk-aversion. Unless it's saving me a LOT, I'd rather just buy new. On the other hand, you might get a better offer from someone that wants a set that size from a premium brand and just can't afford it new. I've been through that several times with people selling cameras, lenses, etc to the point where I no longer bother.

I suspect you'd need to find the right kind of buyer, not someone like me, or you wouldn't like my idea of what it's worth (to me).

I use eBay sold items as a guide to what things can go for.

According to that it seems working ones go for about £400-500 if I got the right model.

Assuming you've got the original box so it can be posted otherwise local buyer's only and take some more off. What would cex give you for it? That'd give you a ball park and an easy out.

Re: What's my OLED telly worth?

Just had a quick look at CeX and they don’t have the model I’ve got. Also I don’t have the box so that further limits resale like you said….

    Hmm decisions….

I would also point out that if you have any 3D movies, you will struggle to find a replacement. You can still buy the movies, but screens to watch them on seem to be getting hard

Re: What's my OLED telly worth?

Yeah, that's why I bought that specific model, and it is pretty awesome, but I don't use it that much.
