    Question Greatest Hits Or Not?

I've been thinking about getting the motley crues' new greatest hits album called "Red, White And Crue". A friend of mine thinks that getting greatest hits albums is pointless, and I should instead get "normal" albums instead. If you think about it, he could be right. If you intend to get more of the band, then greatest hits won't be worth it because you'd be getting the same songs with their other albums. Right now, I'm thinking that I should just get red white and crue, as I don't think I'll be getting any more albums from them, and since it does have 37 (IIRC) songs on, that's a fair amount.

    What do you think?

Depends on how much you like the group really... if you have, or intend to buy, all the albums by them then do you need the Greatest Hits, if not then buy it...

Also, is it just the tracks from the albums, often they are different to add extra value, e.g. Forever Faithless - has couple of extra tracks, and some of the tracks are different versions than appeared on the albums.

Think I'm gonna get the Crüe one too

I think I might as well go for it, because to get the same number of songs with normal albums will be far more expensive. Cheapest I've found is here:

I buy Greatest hits albums, often just to use in the car.

I buy greatest hits albums occasionally, but most of my hard rock/metal is on vinyl that I got at boot fairs and charity shops. Anyone buying the Motley Crue albums would be well advised to avoid Theatre of Pain- it's utter gash.

He comes in here asking about Crue and you suggest....Coldplay?

Seriously, Crue might be cheesy but at least a few of their songs rock

Fair enough I suppose. Still, Crue, whatever you think of them, are a rock band, so Gorillaz and Coldplay are a bit irrelevant. I must admit that I'd never heard any SOAD before today so I took advantage of Amazon's previews to try some- and TBH none of it has much of a tune- it's all a lot of shouting as far as I can tell. Now Vince Neil ain't much of a singer IMO but he can just about carry a tune. OTOH Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee can write a decent tune, Tommy Lee actually is a great drummer IMO, and Mick Mars can play....so if you've 'never really been a fan on the crew' then maybe you should check out:

    Wild Side
    Dr Feelgood

I suggest Girls, Girls, Girls from that list. It has a few live tracks at the end which are rockin' maaaan! Jailhouse Rock is fantastic

That would be the enhanced version of the Girls Girls Girls album. All the tracks I listed are on Red White and Crue FWIW.
