Sunset and night shots (thumbs = 40KB)

Edit: more shots added late on Monday 18/7, scroll down to see them

It seems that when people have posted sunsets and night shots here before they've got a really positive response, so since I've finally got myself a film scanner (albeit one of those jumped up flatbeds ) I thought I'd post a few of mine. If I can get the VB code working, clicking the thumb should take you to a 1280 x Something JPG. The first two are about 300KB, the second 400KB- thought I'd do it that way just in case there are any 56K-ers who are prepared to make a cuppa while the pics download. So, without any further ado:

    Ocean Village, Southampton:

    Fawley Refinery:

    Tokyo Bay:

If you like these, post here and I'll scan a few more in tomorrow.

Yeah, I have a few from when I went to Japan in 2001, I shot three rolls off on that sunset on my last night there.

You (and everyone else) are welcome to use them for wallpapers as long as you don't redistribute them (or basically infringe my copyright in a way that would annoy me, ask if not sure). If anyone wants a bespoke file to match their screen res, PM me and I'll do you one from the original TIFF file.

Edit: camera, sorry. The first one was my EOS 650, and the other two were the EOS 620 I replaced the 650 with when it broke down. Lens wise, first pic was the bog standard Canon 35-70mm F3.5-4.5, second was a 50-200mm F3.5-4.5L, and third was the 50mm F1.8 Mk1.

Never been to Liverpool, sorry. I'd like to go to Merseyside at some point, my Dad grew up in Birkenhead.

    Wow, they really are nice...

I really should get my Canon out and get snapping a bit more. I've got the 300V and it's a fantastic camera, it's what made my ex- want his 300D as the pictures that come out really are stunning sometimes.

Thanks for the nice comments guys. I Had a lot of grief with the scanner this afternoon, had to swap it to my other computer in the end, but here are a couple more. I'll do the rest tomorrow if I get time. Anyway, the Ocean Village one is from the same location as the first, but taken about an hour later with a wideangle lens. I think it shows how you can get a totally different mood depending on the time. So, my advice to photographers is if you're in a good location as the sun's going down and you're not in a hurry, stay there and keep shooting. The second one is the view over Southampton station and away over towards the docks. Not a great pic but I like the train, the light trails and all the pylons, cranes etc. on the skyline.

I saw Queen + Paul Rodgers at Hyde Park last night, and the shots of the sunset on the big screens were AMAZING (just like the show)!. Only thing was that when I turned round to look at it, it didn't look anywhere near as good. I suppose the camera must have been configured to make it all look better or something.
