The New addition; big day out

well, here's my girlfriend's new dog. which I guess means its 'our dog'... ! we finally settled on the name Ralph...took ages to figure one out but eventually settled on that. So, I hadn't seen him before we went away to the mountains the past 2 weeks and this w/e was the first time I would meet him. as a cat person its surprising that I would say this but he is awesome. we went to the beach for a run around...and he certainly ran us around! here's a few images I took:

he's about 6-8yrs old, a rescue dog but very well mannered. quite good looking too, he's a saluki...pure I think but could be wrong. very thin cause I think he got poorly fed and just worked by the gypsies that owned him. he probably got ill and as a result of constant working never had a chance to recover so got dumped. gypsies do that all the time, filthy miserable b*ggers. anyway, he's in a good home now!

he is REALLY FAST when he gets going, he's new to us so we didn't take his lead off when we took him to the beach but even so, he can really take off!

he tends to steer as you just flail around wildly behind looking like you know what he's doing if anyone asks...

and he obviously knew there was a camera about, poser! (this was whilst running about at warp factor diddly too!)

He's certainly inquisitive and loves to play...depending on who you are he plays differently. I think he knows I'm faster/stronger/fitter than my g/f so he plays a little faster and rougher with me...I think he's quite a clever chap like that, always looking around and checking things out. think he has good eyes too as he watches planes flying over-head.

I found if you run in one direction then suddenly turn the other way he goes wild chasing you...(no I didn't get bit on the bum!)

when I stopped he looks around ready for the next bout...

so after an afternoon's good charge around on the beach we went back for tea, he's clearly far too refined to be living with a bunch of pikeys.

and a well earned snooze. its great, take him out for a blast around for maybe an hour and he's out for the count for virtually the rest of the day! think thats partly cause he's so thin (less reserves for energy) and slightly unfit...not that he'd be thought of as un fit given his incredible speed.

I wonder what he dreams of...

    shhh...sleeping now

Very nice dog and a suitable name. Our hound harry is a rescue dog, similar build to your one as well. Even when healthy and well fed thin dogs dont tend to be able to keep up a lot of activity for long periods of time, they are more suited to short periods of high speed. Once you can trust him off the lead its worth looking for a dog friendly frisbee (dog friendly ones dont cut the dogs mouth), or a tennis ball thrower. That way you and the misses can stroll along the beach and the dog can do all the running around. The tennis ball throwers are also good as you dont have to keep picking up a slobbery ball.

We're gonna get a tennis ball thrower for our new addition, benji (see 18th sept competition thread)

he's not quite worked out the dynamics of fetch though yet.

He's a lubbly looking dog Shi.
