Thinking about getting this - http://www.epiphone.com/default.asp?...CollectionID=5
And was just wondering if any of you guys had actually played one or infact played anything made by epiphone?

Epiphone guitars are usually rather good quality for the price they go for. However, if you want to make a decent guitar great, you'll do yourself well to change the pickups/switches/rheos/plug, and more often than not - the machine heads.
Saying this, I've only had experience playing items from the Les Paul/SG/Explorer/ES335/Casino/Flying V series, and I haven't had the opportunity to testplay the one you like.
So unless Epiphone have completely changed the quality of the electronics since my instrument shop days (about 4 years ago), I'd at least buy a new pickup or two. Remember though - try before you buy. As nice as you might think it looks, it might play/balance like a drunken donkey on sleeping pills.
Problem is finding somewhere round here with one in i can test :/
If you can't find yourself one to have a play with, I'd recommend testing out:
-A regular SG/Gothic G400 - based around that model
-BC Rich Warlock - similar shape, but a little more pointy
-any guitar with a floyd rose locking bridge and nut.
I'd guess that epiphone mean live pickups when they say "ultra hot". So if you don't plan on spending the cash on changing the electrics, at least testplay a guitar with EMG 81s or similar battery powered buckers.
It's pretty near impossible to get a feel for a guitar without picking it up, but put in a little effort, test each aspect of it seperately (or as much together as poss), and you can at least "get an idea" what it might be like.
Have a look at as many reviews you can find as possible, if a reviewer says it plays like poo with strings - then it most likely plays like poo with strings
I really need to find a good guitar shop near me that has stuff like that that i can try , I was planning on getting a warlock before i read the reviews, apparently it only likes distortion and i need something that'll play nicely clean aswell.

The nearest one to you may be a little bit of a drive from you, but they are seriously one of the best shops in the UK. The one in manchester is huge - has electrics (Gibsons, Fenders, Epis, Jackos, ESPs and loads more) all down one wall. Then acoustics down the other wall, basses at the bottom, and a rather juicy selection of amps in the middle. Upstairs is all the electronic equipment, mixers, drums, home recording, pcs and all that.
You're welcome to just take a guitar off the wall, plug it into the amp of your choice, and test as you see fit. Good service, and the prices aren't too bad either.
Make sure to have a play with the guitar acoustically before you plug in.. a guitar which plays poorly acoustically won't do much better plugged in clean/overdriven/distorted.
Sounds to me like you need a les paul
Still meaning to fit a reso on top of the neck humbucker.. blah
In my experince you wanna stay away from Epiphone. The things never stay intune for more than 1 jamming session and the original pickups are more often than not louzy as hell.
You have been warned!!
Which is, like I said, why you should upgrade machineheads and the electrics...
Cheers guys, have just found a gibson les paul studio in platinum for £800 though, so i think i'll be going down that route............
Remember to test it first
hank u lazy sod, get ur ass up to wolves or merry hill and try them. best way to choose is try lots and pick which is best for you to learn/play on
Gamertag - Russonf (xbox and ps3)
no guitar shops in merry hill russ :/
closest to me is either halesowen or stourbridge, and the one in stourbride only stocks cheap replica's
i had a bc rich warlock and i liked it!! it was a bit weak without a distortion pedal as you said plus it was a bit uncomfortable to play as i had a beer belly lol it had a lovely neck as well
my fave was a kramer cant remember the model but it was some sort of eddie van halen type it mad me sound like a guitar hero
i was like wayne in waynes world with the white strat every week id go down town and try this guitar out after spending all week practising a new song to play im talking 20 years ago now tho lol oh the memories
Farts are like children.....You always love you're Own.!!!
Wise Men learn from Other people's mistake's...Fool's learn from their OWN.!!!
Right, the search is now on for a guitar shop near me thats got a bronze warlock i can test out I've just been reading some reviews and apparently its better for different styles unlike the platinum range.
Mightily tempted by the gibson as i'm still learning so a £900 guitar would be slightly wasted on me and use up about 3 months wages :/
Mine is a Vintage VS6 copy of a gibson SG. Very heavy tone. Its warm and vibrant sound gives me a hard on every time.
Plus is great for learning. Its pretty easy to play due to the long neck. Looks F**KING classy as well espesially for the prive of £180.
Great rockin Guitar. well worth it. Find one play it and tell me what you guys think.
You have been warned!!
Just remembered the good old Gordon Smith SGs... absolutely splendiferous tone - distorted, clean and overdriven. Personally I prefer them over Gibson SGs - plus! Damn good price too!
Give one a try if you can find one :>
