Taking pictures of lightning..

I was just wondering how people take pictures of lightening?

Obviously they won't know 'exactly' on the spot when lightning will hit, so I'm thinking either a VERY slow shutter speed (but wouldn't the large flash make the picture go all white anyway?), taking a picture every second or so... OR taking a constant video and just taking the frame(s) out of the video.

Anyone here taken pictures of lightening before? and how did you go about it?

a remote shutter doofer comes in *very* handy too

trying to photograph lightning i find is blumming frustrating as most of the time you'll take a long exposure thats ends up being only black clouds and then 1 second after its constant lightning untill you hit the shutter and then nothing again

cant wait till summer to try and get some proper ones, will have a d50 this time and with any luck the loft will have some windows in giving a better view
