    programable remotes

Do they really work? I could do with replacing the remote for my Tv box (unusual chinese thing off ebay) the remote for my amp and the remote for my CD. Now these 6 in 1 programable remotes, do they really work or if I go and buy one will it be naff and only work with one or maybe two of the three items I want it for?

If they have a learning function then yeah they're brilliant.

Look for one with an LCD display, or even a completely touch-screen one.

I have a OneForAll Mosaic, shown here: http://www.oneforall-int.com/english...URC-mosaic.htm

It's great, but has the odd limitation; The Philips Pronto works in the same way but is more advanced. Shown here:

Yeah - I should be buying one quite soon (thanks to Howard, lol). There great, I especially like the use of macros so you can switch on or use several bits of gear at the same time (well, with one button press anyways).

I've had a pronto for a couple of years and never had a problem teaching it any device yet. It may be obvious but they can even recognise between short key presses and long ones when being taught, so for volume you can teach it to continually send the vol up/down code or just once per press (minor but pretty handy).

With the Pronto you can also change all the screen designs with a program they give you, or download other peoples from the net. I guess you can probably do that with quite a few touch screen ones, never been bothered myself but people do.

For touch screen models it takes longer to do things becasue you have to change screens to get to certain buttons (depending on the way you've set it up) and you don't get the tactile feedback of the buttons so you actually have to look at what you're doing.

    Yeah Prontos are very configurable.
I have some software on my PDA that emulates the Colour Pronto and if you use the ProntoEdit software it's very versatile!

Howard do you have a link to the PDA software? I like the sound of it, i've no need for it but always nice to have a look.

And if anyone has £1000 to spare this looks impressive:

Browse the web at the same time as controlling everything, if i was looking to spend £700 on the colour pronto i'd pay the extra for that i think.

Now - mentioning the PDA software .... I'm currently thinking of getting either a PDA and new mobile, or alternatively a P910. Is there anything that would do this job for the P910? Just a quick query, gonna have a look myself now.
