British F1 Grand Prix.

Right so it was the Grand Prix or something today. Few firsts for me; first time at Silverstone, first time at an F1 GP and first time shooting motorsport. Taken me far too long to get around to the last one considering one of the main reasons I bought my 350d (almost exactly a year ago now!) was to shoot motorsport.

All of them are cropped to hell, the mixture of my wee (in comparison) 70-200 and the ugly backdrop of the inside of Copse don't go well together. Didn't help that due to my distance I was sat from the track and the reach, or lack thereof, of my lens meant I was struggling to focus on the small cars in the large frame. I'm not bothered though, was a great weekend and it was all about the fun, taking pictures came second.

if I had a few hundred quid spare I'd have driven down myself but the finances are unfortunately shot to hell (something to do with a new camera & lens ).

I felt a little bit silly snapping away with my Optio S4 in the middle of folk with lenses the size a small car

Only wish my finances had let me get a DSLR before the trip. Although a bottle of sun tan lotion would have been even more useful.

Ah well, there's always next year.

3 rocks, nice panning. The others feel a tad static to me - but nice nevertheless.
I think I'd like 4 more if the foreground car was the sharp one

Aye I know, it's just the combination of Silverstone and 70-200 isn't that great so I ended up concentrating on just getting usable photos rather than ones that didn't look static. Most of them were blurry, OOF messes.

looks like u have wheel freeze from too high a shutter speed ... nothing to do with the lens.. it like prop freeze when taking pictures of aeroplanes with propellers - shooting cars need 1/250 or less really to eliminate the 'freeze'

I know, I'm talking about just getting focused on the cars properly in the first place. It's a bit easier as they exit the bend as they're closer but then there's the obstructions from the stand and the attractive chain link fence to deal with.
