    itunes on NON-ipods?

want to get mp3 player, prob with video, but do NOT want to buy an ipod

reason I want to stick with itunes is that most NB for me is the podcasting, and while there are alternatives, prefer to stay with itunes

would ideally want an Archos device (esp AV500) to run itunes............

    thanks

podcasts arent restricted to itunes, theyre just mp3s, that sit in <itunes directory>\podcasts. Just sync that folder using whatever software works for the player you buy.

agreed, but subscribing is easier via itunes, IIRC

plus, have some video podcasts to sub to.

it is, but nearly all software that comes with mp3 players will have watch directories, so you should just be able to add that one, and then sync whenever you feel like it, while going on using itunes as before.

THeres also a plug in called badapple, but i had a bit of trouble getting it to work when i tried it, that might just have been my machine though, and it was a fair while ago

Just had a look at the AV500 manual. There is an iTunes plugin for OSX that allows you to sync, but not for windows that i know of (unless there is a download on the Archos website).

Have you looked at iTunes alternatives for managing your music, syncing and podcast downloading?

I would be surprised if you couldn't get something for free that does all you want to do. Of course this won't let you buy music from iTunes, but this may be no bad thing

heres a better idea, use somthing else....

IIRC the patch that fixes the bug only allowing ipods to sync with itunes doesnt work on the latest versions (yes, that was slightly sarcastic...)
