Needs idea's to stop fan vibrations
Hey all!
So I am running Corsair AF 120mm x 2 and SP 120mm x 2.
The 2x AF are on the front of my Fractal design midi case.
The 2x SP's are running on my H55 - using 'the mod' to my OC'd 7850 and to my H80i cooling my CPU.
Now here's the problem. The two AF's on the front are silent in their performance (tested by physically holding them) however they do create a vibration at any speed, when attached to the front of the case. I need a way to reduce this (or completely stop), as it can be an annoying buzz/humm/noise.
The SP fan attached to my H50 is the same (making nosie) which is in push config at the bottom of the case.
The SP attached to the H80i is silent as it should be :)
Any constructive ideas are very welcome!
Many thanks.
Re: Needs idea's to stop fan vibrations
Is it the fan causing the noise or is it case vibration? If its the latter (i. E. It goes away if you touch the case) then some weights blu tacked to the panel might sort out any resonance issues
Re: Needs idea's to stop fan vibrations
Rubber washers between the fan and case can help. In the past I've had a complete sleeve that fitted round the edge of the fan, simple washers, and rubber replacements for screws.
The other option is to stop the panel vibrating, adding some sound proofing to it will give it more mass and should help.
Re: Needs idea's to stop fan vibrations
One more vote for rubber washers. or you can buy some silicon in a pound shop and place a very thin layer of it in the spot that fan is connecting to the case. Silicon should absorb the vibrations.

Just buy decent fans.
Vibration = blades not balanced. I bought a load of Silverstone air penetrators (120mm and 180mm's) and they all vibrade to some degree, 180mm ones are awfully bad vibration. Will never buy any Silverstone fans ever again.
My BeQuiet's on the other hand are all silent and nicely balanced.

If your fans are sound... Find any moving part on your case that may vibrate and seal with some silicon on to eliminate the noise.
