Which Corsair SP120 for Corsair h100i?

    Hi there.

I'm planning to replace stock fans on corsair h100i with sp120 pwm fans. I do like the red rings on them.
I want to be able to controlled them through corsair link.

There are 2 version of the corsair pwm:quiet and performance edition.
Which one would be better, comparing performance to noise?
I don't mind few degrees temp difference as long it's quieter than stock fans.

I've got quiet case NZXT h440 and will be getting i7 4770k (over clocked)

Can someone recommend which version is better for h100i, please?

    Regards

TBH, I wouldn't use either - One of my rads has a gap between the fans, using it without a gasket significantly reduces performance. I can't see how the roundness of the corsair fans won't introduce similar issues.

They look cool, but I'd be a bit wary from a performance perspective.

    ^ What Heru says!

I tried Performance Edition SP120s exhausting through my H100 in both pull and then push config. Not only were they louder than almost every other fan I've tried, but I could actually feel *warm* air sifting out through the top mesh.

I switched to a pair of Noctua NF-F12 PWMs in push and everything is back to a nice, quiet, cool setup.
Given that the H100i is supposed to beat the H100 by 8-10ÂșC, you may still get an okay result from the SPs... I'd not recommend them, though.
I actually *gave* my set away, in the end!!

It looks like you're going after for a silent build and it seems noise would be a concern to you. If so, between the two SP Series, I'd go for the SP120 Quiet Edition. It is optimized for silent operation with out compromising its overall performance.

Check out this review, a good comparison between 2 the editions and how they scale with each other with respect to nose and performance.

Sorry greybeard, didn't realise we were in the corsair bit when I commented - Happy to remove my comment if you'd like?

Re: Which Corsair SP120 for Corsair h100i?

    Thanks guys for your replies.

Thanks Greybeard for the link, but if I am not wrong that's not PWM fans in this review.
Ttaskmaster I am pretty sure that Noctua would be better, but they are so ugly (my personal opinion) and I am a bit OCD when it comes to look.

Another questions, correct me if my thinking is wrong.
If I get High performance SP120s PWM fans, in theory I can reduce the speed to match quietness of Quiet edition SP120s PWM, can't I? And if need more cooling power I can always increase their speed, which I will not be able to do with quiet edition.
So in theory the performace edition PWM should be better than quiet PWM one. Well in theory.
    Any thoughts on this?
    Regards

No problem at all and there is no need to remove your post. It's always good that we all contribute recommendations based on our own experience, or even based on opinion. As long that it helps other members, I'm all for it

Yes, you can always change the fan's rpm to lower down the noise or like the way you put it, to match the Quiet Edition. Corsair Link would be the tool to make these adjustments, assuming that you'd connect the fans to the cooler fan port.
