SP120 RGB PRO adjustable fan speed?

I've just bought a new case and seen that the SP120 RGB PRO fans it comes with have an rpm of 1400 according the corsair site. Are they adjustable or will they just run at 1400rpm the whole time?

The better LL and QL fans show an RPM of 525 to 1500 which suggests the RPM is adjustable.

Re: SP120 RGB PRO adjustable fan speed?

That's just the maximum speed. Just about any fan with 3 or 4 pins these days will have variable speed.
This is usually controlled by your motherboard, and there are ways you can set up your own speed curve (usually according to temperature) as well.
If you prefer another form of control, there are plenty of different fan controllers available, from simple dials, to touchscreen, to fully automated.

Re: SP120 RGB PRO adjustable fan speed?

you can either adjust a fan by varying the voltage supplied (via a voltage controller circuit, the simplest being a simple variable resistor dial) or for 4-pin pwm fans by adjusting the PWM pulse cycling to effectively reduce the RMS voltage. As Tasky says either use the mobo headers or third party controllers.

No fan I've seen allows user control by itself, it simply has the capacity to run at different speeds when controlled by something else.

Fans giving a lower range usually are PWM fans where the fan resistance means it often doesn't spin lower than this under PWM control* (but could still do so using 100% cycle and reducing the input voltage supply like a normal 3 pin fan).

*the common PWM cut-off threshold is 40% cycling IIRC

Re: SP120 RGB PRO adjustable fan speed?

Corsair fans that come with corsair cases will come with a controller for controlling them via most modern mobos. It's for SURE just the maximum speed, not a fixed 100% speed.
