how to remove file size limit in 8gb corsair usb stick
Hi i was wondering if it is possible to copy a video file of about 5gb into my 8gb corsair usb stick.
I did a little bit of googling and seems like fat32 partition has a file size limit of 4gb.
Is there a way round it. Can the fat32 partition on the usb stick be converted to NTFS.
Thx in advance.

NTFS format for flash drives
Q. Are there any problems associated with reformatting USB flash drives, which use FAT formatting, to use NTFS? I'd like to reformat my current drive, but I won't if it's going to cause problems.
A. The main problem with formatting flash drives using NTFS is that the features of this format also produce much more wear and tear on the flash drive which will cause it to wear out much faster.
NTFS is a journaling files system and, as such, reads and writes to files much more often than other file systems like FAT and FAT32. This is because disk transactions are logged separately on the disk as they occur.
That being said, if you have done your research and have decided to format your USB flash drive using NTFS I will even tell you how it's done.
To enable NTFS on your drive, right click My Computer and select Manage. Open the Device Manager and find your USB drive under the Disk Drives heading. Right click the drive and select Properties, then go to the Policies tab and select the "Optimize for performance" option and Click OK.
Once you do that, open up My Computer and right click on the flash drive and select Format. There you will see that you now have the option to format to NTFS in the File System dropdown box.
My question is can i convert the usb stick back into fat32 once i make it an NTFS.
Re: how to remove file size limit in 8gb corsair usb stick
yes you can, NTFS is a file structure and so it FAT32 so you need to format the device to have the other file structure...
Re: how to remove file size limit in 8gb corsair usb stick
You can but it is not recommended.
The OS constantly accesses NTFS partitions so your drive will die a lot quicker.
Re: how to remove file size limit in 8gb corsair usb stick
It's a limitation of the FAT file system and can't be altered. You could use NTFS, but it's not the best file system for flash drives, as mentioned above. You could keep FAT32 and use a program like 7zip to split the file. There's a portable version available here: http://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/7-zip_portable so that you can carry it with you on your flash drive. I believe there's going to be a new flash drive optimised FS released soon, mainly for SSDs but I'm sure it would work on USB drives, too.

You can format using exFAT under Vista but I don't think it's compatible with XP.

I don't know the way to do it. But has one of my friend who git it done. And you can really convert it.
Re: how to remove file size limit in 8gb corsair usb stick
I think if you select the drive and format it, you'll be able to get the option of formating it to ntfs. I haven't tried it myself as I have never put a file size as big as 4 gig on a usb stick.
Re: how to remove file size limit in 8gb corsair usb stick
You can format to NTFS; it might not be the best option for a flash drive but you can just as easily as formatting to FAT.
