that is one poor article!

Poor article yes, but if they were going to produce better ones wouldn't you just buy them at the time anyway?
P.S: What is this doing in the Corsair section?
Find it hard to believe that they'd kill off the 920 altogether without having a similar priced offering - a 930/5 perhaps? Either that or they're just getting rid of the basic 920 leaving the D0 version as its replacement.

That is all.

bull****I just bought mine. Haven't even installed it yet still making decisions on the right motherboard
Not too surprising considering how close to i5 we are.
It seems to make sense that the i7 920 would go given what we're hearing about the i5, but it also sounds like the i7 will continue to be the high-end part while the i5 will be a bit more mainstream.
I'm wondering if they're pushing the i7 towards workstations (perhaps entry level workstations rather than the Xeon and leaving the Xeon for servers and higher end workstations) or whether it will continue to be the high end part for 'normal' desktops...
I'm hoping the latter as I am still (delaying the buying and building) of an i7 system - prices seem to be on a steeper downslope now so I'm holding off a bit longer - maybe 'til the DX11 GPUs come - hearing hints of July/August for ATI's. Plus, from what I've read the i7's are still likely to be the more overclockable parts. I'm speculating that a lower priced i7 920 overclocked may still be a good buy even when the i5 comes out
The interwebz seem to be predicting that the lower 920 model will go as Lynnefield/i5 is on par with it in some cases - and may even best it.
Lynnefield seems a better purchase at the min due to lower prices/TDP as well as cheaper motherboards etc, although i dont think current X58 prices are too bad compared to when they were originally released in november. The other product to look out for on the horizon is the shrink to 32nm(Havendale ?), who knows what Intel will be doing with there lineup then, id expect some hefty clockspeeds - more so in Turbo Mode.
Let's not forget, though, that 920s, when overclocked, can mix it with the higher ones. Lynnefield comparisons are at stock only, remember.
Personally I cant seem the dropping them any time soon. We have the 920 price cut a bit after the i5's are released. People been mentioning £170 mark. When the gulf-towns officially hit the market then we might see a slight shift of stock.

Intel are not killing the i7 920 or i7 940.
Yeaaah old article. 920 is here to stay. I think they killed the 960 though didn't they?
You are thinking of the 965, but yeah I think they did, but it got replaced with the 975 anyway. The important one in the 920, and as long as it stays, I think it is pretty safe to get a X58 motherboard.
