Memory upgrade! is it worth it?

Just now I only have 4GB of cheap ass Kingston DDR2 - (667Mhz) RAM in my rig.
    I am looking at the
4GB (2x2GB) Corsair TwinX DDR2 XMS2 Dominator, PC2-8500(1066) £64 @ Scan. What difference will I actually notice with my PC if I get this memory?

I use my PC all the time, it is my main entertainment system be it watching movies/TV shows, listening to my sounds, playing games (mainly shooters) and the usual internet based stuff we all do.

My CPU is a Q6600, liquid cooled. I do not over clock or anything like that so is it worth my while upgrading the RAM? I have been getting contrasting opinions from a couple of friends of mine and I am more confused than ever.

    Cus

P.S. - I don't know whether I should spend the extra tenner and get the fan with the memory as I have seen it in other rigs and it looks quite cool but is it practical and functional?

If you do not OC your CPU, then you will see a very minimal gain by increasing only the memory speed. In memory intensive applications you might see a 2%-5% gain.

    What he said ^^

I wouldn't bother personally. You already have 4GB, and while relative RAM speed can make a difference, it's not going to affect things like how many FPS you get and you wouldn't notice the difference in the applications you use

Going from 4GB to another 4GB purely for the speed isn't worth the cash. If you were to get 2 of those kits however.... you'd never need to use that much.

I'd save it and put it towards a second monitor, dual-screens are awesome, and give me more space to try to use up the ram I have

Only really worth the upgrade if you're doing some serious overclocking..as they say, spend your money on something else

Yes, your Corsair reseller should have the fans.
