    H50 damaged fins a problem? 1st build

    Hi all,

I just bought new components from Scan, including a H50 but some of the fins were damaged on the radiator. I have arranged an RMA with them (to be picked up tomorrow) but I've just checked their website and they are now out of stock!
I was wondering if I should just keep the one I have as I read that damaged fins aren't really a problem? Its not a huge amount of damage and the air would still get thru but what if there is other damage?

Its my 1st build and I'm just desperate to get this up and running. What do you think I should do?

Put the stock cooler in for now and wait for replacement.

Re: H50 damaged fins a problem? 1st build

I was thinking about that but I'm gonna have to remove the motherboard and its a pain in the arse. Not to mention removing the stock cooler, the paste and the motherboard before installing the H50 when it arrives.
I think I'm just gonna have to suck it up in go down this route though...

Re: H50 damaged fins a problem? 1st build

you could arrange to return it for RMA refund and order another one, get the new one 1st and then ship back the faulty one. scan have done this for me in the past due to the length of time it takes them to turn products round. just make sure they are aware you are returning it due to damage for refund as your buying a replacement up front.

take pictures of the damage before you ship back.

You got that right! i finally got it installed and realised i mounted the fan on the radiator wrong way - was pulling instead of pushing.. Had to take the bugger off and start again.

The instructions are damn terrible too, but once you've got it mounted its a real good cooler.

You got that right as well. It's a great cooler but don't be fooled by all the suspiciously happy and slightly overweight californians telling you how a 2 year old with no arms could install it.

Re: H50 damaged fins a problem? 1st build

Arrgghhh! I just took the MB out and to try to install the stock cooler but I can't get the H50 retention plate off! Those little sticky pads are stuck fast. I don't want to damage the MB by pulling them too firmly.
Can't get the stock cooler on cos the plate would push back on the retention pins.
God dammit I'll just have to wait for the replacement.

The average turnaround for RMA's is 5-7 days, of course this extends if the replacement as in this case is unfortunately out of stock. I'll contact Corsair directly to confirm when the H50 will arrive in stock...

If DPD have not already made the collection, I have informed the Returns Manager that you will continue to use the product until we receive replacement stock.

    Best Regards
