    Corsair 40GB Force F40, very slow .

Hello there, I just bought one of your new SSD's and annoyingly getting very slow read and write times. The max speeds are meant to be ; Read 280MB/s Write 270MB/s. The following.

    I have tried this; http://blog.corsair.com/?p=3989

I am running a Asus P6X8D-E with all the drivers installed.

Unless there is something wrong with my drive the listed speeds are misleading to say the least .So if this can't be fixed this what are the chances corsair could give me a refund, or would I have to get refunded from the vendor I bought it from, ebuyer?

    Regards.

Just a quick tip, Holding Alt while pressing Print Screen just takes the active window not the whole desktop

Ebuyer should be your first port of call for a refund as you have a contract with them for the delivered goods. Corsair would only be useful to contact when dealing with warranty issues.

Many benchmarks are not reliable for SSDs. Try testing with ATTO and post a screenshot.

Have you set SATA mode to AHCI or RAID mode btw? If it's set to IDE mode it will be slightly bottlenecked AFAIK.

Re: Corsair 40GB Force F40, very slow .

Thanks for the replies guys. I tried the fiddling with the SATA settings and still got the same results. I ran ATTO and although I was getting peak reading of around 230 MB/s, the average was 140 MB/s. I decided to RMA, Ebuyer picked up today so I will consider getting a F100 or the Crucial 6GB/s drive (as my mobo is compatible).

    Regards.

What other benchmarks do you suggest?

ATTO. Our entire SSD line from the beginning has been documented using ATTO. We don't use other utilities internally. So, if you provide benchmarks using other utilities, they cannot be compared with our internal numbers and the numbers provided by the controller manufacturers.

    Test Results
    ATTO Bench32
Drive Sequential Read – Max Sequential Write – Max
    Corsair F40 282.6 MB/s 270.1 MB/s
    Intel X25-V 40GB 197.7 MB/s 42.9 MB/s
    Kingston SSDNow 30GB 197.2 MB/s 55.5 MB/s

Wow, check out the difference in Sequential Write numbers!

    IOMeter 2008(4K Random Write/4K Aligned)
Drive IOPS MB/s Avg I/O Response Time***
    Corsair F40 50,078 196.9 0.6
    Intel X25-V 40GB 10,423 40.7 3.1
    Kingston SSDNow 30GB 844 3.3 36.8

***Time Based, lower value is better

Again, the Force Series F40 shines in IOPS, MB/s, and response time.

    CrystalDiskMark
Drive Sequential Read Sequential Write Random 4K Read QD=1 Random 4K Write QD=1 Random 4K Read QD=32 Random 4K Write QD=32
    Corsair F40 150.4 MB/s 75.6 MB/s 20.9 MB/s 74.2 MB/s 89.4 MB/s 74.7 MB/s
    Intel X25-V 40GB 196.6 MB/s 42.6 MB/s 23.1 MB/s 40.5 MB/s 137.4 MB/s 41.8 MB/s
    Kingston SSDNow 30GB 196.3 MB/s 51.8 MB/s 11.2 MB/s 2.5 MB/s 11.1 MB/s 3.3 MB/s

The results are closer here, with the Intel X25-V turning in faster read scores, and the Force Series F40 delivering significantly faster writes.

I'm thinking of getting one of these for a boot drive.

Re: Corsair 40GB Force F40, very slow .

No.72, was the drive slow when you were running windows or did it operate as normal? I don't think the speeds you were seeing are abnormal for that drive but I could be wrong. I have a number of F series drives and very happy with them, don't really care too much what the bench numbers are because we all know that the conditions have got to be perfect for the maximum speed.

Also if anyone else had this issue, check that your SSD is connected to the standard Intel controllers and not a Marvell 6G port.
