    Unhappy Leaking H-50 watercooler

    Hi There,

I have had a bit of a nightmare this weekend trying to get my H50 installed.

Firstly the backplate did'nt fit my MSI P55 GD65 motherboard to I had to file into it slightly to get it mounted on the board. This all went fine and I got the backplate attached, I then went to install the Radiator and fan and realised that the hose from the radiator was leaking fluid !

Luckily I don't think it has damaged any of the components in the PC but gave a me a fright I can tell you. I have raised an RMA with corsair but have as yet not heard back so thiought I would post on here to try and get some help. I have left the machine powered off overnight and will refit the stock cooler when I get back from work this evening and make sure that nothing was damaged but it appears that there is a leak where the radiator attaches to the pipes.

If you could update me with the status of my RMA that would be much appreciated,

    Regards,

    Simon Carney

I have since contacted Scan Customer service and have arranged an RMA through them instead

    Re: Leaking H-50 watercooler

I got lucky and most of it was caught by the Fan as you can see in the picture a little bit went on the top of the PSU but none hit any components <phew> I hasten to add though that I have since had a replacement and it is a really good bit of kit and has given me a lot more ceiling on my Overclock

I had an H50 spring a leak too, in exactly the same place. Fortunately, it didn't get on any components but it scared the bediddlies out of me when I spotted it.

I got it RMA'd through Scan too. I should note that I've owned four H50s and one H70 and that was the only one I ever had a problem with (thus far!)

put me off getting one of these. Wanted a water cooler solution and was going to buy a H-50 but think I will stick to a air based fan.

I would'nt let it put you off mate, I now have it installed and it works really well. One thing I maybe would do different is to leak test it before it goes in just to be on the safe side. From what I hear though leaks on these are really quite rare.

I wonder if there is any come back on Corsair if it leaks and destroys your system. These units are meant to be sealed, there is no plugging pipes in etc.

Check this LINK it appears that Corsair replaced all the affected components when an H50 leaked

Wow, I've just brought one, have never watercooled, so its a first, this is making me even more uneasy, considering it'll go into my HTPC!

Thats good to see but still makes me nervous that it's a one off. By the looks of it there are a few cases of the H-50 leaking. Might look elsewhere unless someone from Corsair can answer this question on the what if. I would assume they would have to replace the parts legally but thats one thing and getting a company to do it is another (not saying Corsair wouldn't just a lot wouldn't).

    Hmmm.

I'm looking at buying one of these as well, they are getting great reviews. I used to have a Promethean Freezer unit (actually I still do!) and I managed to kill two motherboards due to condensation, but that was a long time ago. Since then I've air cooled.

    Double hmmm...

Skell, I bit the bullet and bought a H50 and can say they are very good. Just make sure your case is big enough as the radiator is big.

I ordered a H70 cooler but after reading this situation, I'm a bit scared!
Is there any way of testing if the H70 is faulty before putting it into my system?

Attach the pump to 12v power and let it run for a few minutes before installation. Do the same after installation without power the entire system on and let it run for a while and then visually inspect it.

I haven't been considering either getting H50 or high end Nxx air based cooling. Now, I'd made up my mind.
