    DDR2 2GB BSOD and 520HW Lead Reqd

Hi guys - I had a stick of DDR2 800MHz XMS2 from my mom for Christmas *Just what I always wanted, more memory! ^_^* but unfortunatley when I installed it alongside my current 2 identical sticks (4GB -> 6GB upgrade) my computer slowed down and began BSODing randomly - Since I've took it out its been working perfect and I left it as is. I was wondering if I had made some fundamental mistake just by slotting it in alongside my current ram without 'preparing' it first. Or is there an easy to use Memory diagnostic I can use to check its integrity?

Also I need a new hard-drive in my computer (I did have one of these too but as I don't have the lead yet I'm sticking it into my girlfriends bros new rig to save him some pennies) so I would LOVE a SATA power lead (or two) for my 520HW so I can upgrade what I get my Black Magic Intensity Pro card soon *also I may possibly need one other separate lead for that).

Lots of loves and kisses - Richie

P:S I totally mean those loves and kisses in a totally manly hardcore lumberjack/beefnerd way!

The memory you originally got would of been a matched pair, basically means they are made and tested together so that they run perfectly in tandem, by adding another stick that's not matched it could be causing errors especially if your limited to 3 slots on the motherboard and your using them all, normally you can get around this by lowering the rams speed to 667mhz instead of 800mhz.

With regards to the power supply you should of got all the cables you needed when you bought the PSU, their should be 4 sata power cables I think in the box.

Technically, your motherboard can support 3 modules but, it's not a good idea. Also, as noted by Jasp, you need to add exactly matching modules. Ideally, your board needs 1, 2, or 4 modules.

I run on a P5Q Pro - 2x2Slots (Blue, White, Blue, White) IIRC
But the matched pair are in the two blue slots and I put the third stick in a white, someone told me I could upgrade like that with no problem?

Otherwise I may aswell need a refund - But its been a couple of months since I bought them...

As for the cables, we have a sticky post here at Hexus and at our forums.

Not always sadly, like I said lowering the ram speed might well solve the problem as you giving the memory more room to breath as it were. Also its possible that the single stick you bought might have issues but I doubt it.

You can test your memory running http://www.memtest.org/

Bah - Ok guys - Next question... What should I do with this 2GB stick then? Should I keep it as spare or do you think its possible to return it (being so long) or maybe, sell it?
