    Corsair 6400 C3DF settings - AsusStrikerExtr

    please have a question.

    have changed just two settings in BIOS:
    memory voltage --> 2,2
    ext. frequenz --> 350 MHz
    Memory all settings "auto"

    giving me a processor speed of 3,5 GB, the system looks like is running stable

    I'm confused a little bit when looking at CPU-Z showing me the values for memory.
    I thought when using "auto" and mainboard supports EPP I should see setting used of 3-4-3-9-2T
    even so the shown value of 420MHz memory timing is confusing me, expected a value of 800 MHz

    please can someone give an "oveclocker newby" an idea in which way EPP is working on a supported EPP MainBoard "Asus Striker Extreme"!?

    btw, one question more:
    Corsair 6400 C3DF are supporting 2,4 V
    would you recommend to increase my settings of 2,2 to 2,4V ?

    thx
    manilla

    Your CPU-Z reading is showing you the "actual" frequency of your memory which is 420mhz. However, DDR/DDR2 memory transfers data 2 times per clock cycle so your effective rate is 840mhz or DDR840. However, the timings are not going to stay at stock if you use EPP to clock the memory faster.

    I would suggest if your system is not utilizing EPP properly, then set the memory timings and your OC manually.

    thanks Yellowbeard for quick answer!

    what about my second question please?

    My general rule of thumb is to run memory at the lowest setting at which it is stable. You can start with 2.4v, get it stable, and then see if you can run it at any less than 2.4v. If not, 2.4v is safe and within the warranty terms.
