    Chance of it working?

A few months back I bought 4*1gb 55512 sticks of your 6400 ram. It wasn't happy in my Gigabyte DS3 (the RAM wasn't faulty). Anyway could 2*2gb sticks work ok?

2 x 2gb should work very well in that board.

Even though the 4*1gb sticks had trouble with it?

Yes, even though the overall capacity is the same, 2 x 2gb is a substantially smaller load on the memory controller. That is why we recommend 2 x 2gb instead of 4 x 1gb for certain MOBOs. In general the 965 chipset likes 2 DIMMs better than 4.
