    Question Medion 8800 (MSI-7204) : XMS2 / Value Select?

    Hello,

I'm planning upgrade the memory on my Medion 8800 (MSI-7204 based) PC. Currently running XPSP2 with 1GB RAM (2x512 PC4300-spec RAM).

The plan is to replace the existing RAM with 4x1GB XMS2-675 (4-4-4-12 PC5400) spec RAM. I realise that under XP, I'll only "see" 3.5GB, but plans to move over to some form of Linux in due course.

I believe that the chipset is capable though I might have to modify the BIOS settings - luckily the password for this BIOS is well known (Medion have a habit of locking these down!).

Is there any benefit of having XMS2 over Value Select for this PC, especially at the stated speeds?

Any thoughts before I proceed with this plan?

    Many thanks!

For that system, if the bios options are limited you will likely do best with VS. If your bios allows OCing and also raising the memory voltage and other voltages, then you might do better with the XMS.
