Underclocking higher frequency RAM to improve timings?

    Hi,

I'm putting together a new pc and am looking at 4GB of either TW3X4G1333C9DHX and TW3X2G1600C9DHX. Both have timings of 9-9-9-24. Now here comes my newbie question. Running the CPU (Intel C2D E8500 1300FSB) at a ratio of 1:1 would my best bet for performance to purchase the 1600Mhz RAM and underclock it to 1333Mhz, thereby allowing me more option (in theory) to tighten the timings? Also what is the lowest timing I'm likely to achieve with this?

Motherboard will be Asus Maximus Extreme.

    Thanks

I dont know anything about DDR3 timings though, I'd assume a small descrease is possible

    It's 4.98*

Timings are not nearly as critical on Core 2 as they have been in the past with other platforms. I would suggest you purchase the memory that will allow the highest CPU OC. If you are not OCing, then buy the least expensive set.
