"Performance" modules use higher quality ICs that tend to have more leeway for clocking then the ICs used on "Value" RAM.
Cheaper RAM usually uses IC's made by Hynix, Samsung, ect, etc
High quality ram will usually use Micron D9, and other higher quality ICs.
In essence, if you are running it at it's stated speeds, then value is fine, if you want to start twiddling, then pay the premium and get performance
Sort of like a car, you could get an cheap small car that will happily trundle along at 60mph, but if you try to go more it'll blow up (over exaggeration ), or a big powerful car that will still trundle along at 60mph happily, but if you wanted to, you could go faster...
I suppose. Well anyway I am OCing up to 800mhz DDR2 (from 667mhz) so I doubt I need to splash out over double heh.
I have samsung chips atm (667mhz 5-5-5-15) that shipped with the laptop and I am not sure if they are holding me back but I can sell it on at little to no loss so I may as well move to 800mhz stuff
But youll notice no difference going from 667-800, and i doubt its your RAM speed holding you back in a laptop :/
Turion X2 with only 512k cache each core means that fast memory is a big bonus in games as its going to have to go looking a lot. Combine that with 9600m GT (500/1250/800 (1600DDR) OCed to 650/1700/1000 (2000 DDR)) means I could see my min FPS go up.
But your system is i7-920? Why you using a laptop ?

I'm a road warrior RAWR.
Actually one broke and I got a refund on it.
Laptop is useful when I go home to my parents (im at uni) and when I am at uni if I take the laptop then I dont have to travel home (15-20 mins hard cycling) to have access to a decent system.
I don't the difference and would really appreciate others views on this.
