Vengance LP running at 1333mhz , not at 1600mhz

    Peeps

just installed some Corsair Memory Vengeance Green Low Profile 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz CAS 9 XMP Dual Channel Desktop RAM. installed and booted OK. checked the speed and its running at 1333mhz not 1600mhz as expected.

    i have this Gigabyte GA-870A-USB3L v3 board with a FX 6300 at 4.2Ghx.

the Gigabyte website says Delivering native support for DDR3 memory up to 2000MHz so i would expect it to work.

went into the bios and changed the setting to manual and picked the correct speed and system wouldn't boot.

reverted back to auto speed and now working again.

Any advice ( i really am a noob at RAM stuff. )

    Thanks

Re: Vengance LP running at 1333mhz , not at 1600mhz

Its picked up some standards for the 1333. I would write down all the latencies, should be 9-9-9-24 or such. Voltage too. Go into BIOS and make sure they are all correct when upping the speed. Possibly its a bit out.

Edit: are you OCing your CPU via fsb or whatever? North bridge at stock? I last oced a phenomii so a little out of the loop.

Re: Vengance LP running at 1333mhz , not at 1600mhz

Have you checked the bios to see if you can use XMP profiles for the RAM? That should make sure that all the right timings and voltages are used.

Do you have DOCP or EOCP feature in your MB BIOS? if you do, you simply enable it then select the speed (1600) and all variables that need to be adjusted will change to run the RAM at 1600Mhz.

and btw, make sure that you have the latest BIOS version for that MB.

Sounds like your running the 1333 timings at 1600mhz. Check the 1600 timings and manually input them if there is no xmp profile.

I have the same ram and run at 1.35v.

i presume that if it set my mobo to the 1600mhz timings and manually set the speed to 1600mhz, it should all work?

Bingo! Once you know that works try knocking the voltage down a little too.

Using your CPU-Z screenie RAM model number here is tech info.

9-9-9-24 1.5v 1600MHz is settings, perhaps your board is set to command rate 1T and not 2T like in the XMP profile/screenie. Perhaps check mobo manual bios section to see how to set it.

RAM doesn't get that hot, but lowering volts if it will stay stable at timings / speeds you use isn't a bad thing.

Checked and my timings are fine. Set my Dram settings to manual and set to 1600mhz. My command rate was set to 2T and I set it to 1T. My computer booted and in cpu-z it was saying 1600MHz.

    Looks like it's sorted.

As suggested, it may not be stable at 1T, so if you find you have problems, go back to the 2T that it's rated for.

Re: Vengance LP running at 1333mhz , not at 1600mhz

Well tried to run GTA 5 last night at the 1600mhz setting and it crashed right away. Tried a few times and kept crashing. Put back to auto mode and game worked fine. Might run ok on desktop/interweb/plex streaming but crashed under gaming.

If in your shoes, I'd first try looser timings and stock volts see how that goes?

Your first post doesn't state used or new ram?

Memtest is good program to test ram.
