bsod errors with corsair value ram???

I have recently purchased 2 512mb stricks of corsair ddr2, 4300, 533mhz ram. I am experiencing bsod errors whilst using my system at high load. All of the components are new and I have checked the compatibility and there should not be any issues.

The errors are generally "page fault in non paged areas" or "IRQ not less or equal". The errors occur even if I take out 1 stick of ram, I have tried changing the sockets the dimms are inserted in etc.

Are these bsod errors those that are normally associated with ram as I have determined it is definately NOT the motherboard, vga card or hard drive. I would have thought it was unlikely the processor would be causing these kinds of errors.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I see other memory listed in your signature. Are you mixing the Corsair with your original memory? Could you also list the complete specifications on your PSU.

The corsiar ram was a replacement of the infineon ram so it is not mixed. This is a link to the manufacturers page of the psu. http://www.trust.com/products/product.aspx?artnr=14888

    Thanks in advance

What specifically are you doing when you get these errors?

Get a decent PSU for a start - that one is really quite rubbish. You simply can not trouble shoot with a poor quality PSU in your system like that.

That PSU is showing up around the £21 mark on google. Yet any decent brand around the same wattage is anywhere between £70 -> £80. That should speak for itself
You simple can *not* buy a 570watt PSU for 20 odd quid. It probably costs more than that to make.

Get a branded one in there, then trouble shoot. Even if a new unit doesnt get rid of the errors, atleast you know that the base of the system is sound.

I hear what you're saying Hexus agent man, the wise man built his house upon the rocks and I ws seduced by the thought of a 570w psu at bargin basement prices. However...

I have now 'borrowed' a decent thermaltake 450w psu with the 6 pin pci-e connector from my brothers pc whilst he is away and I am getting the same errors, leading me to believe it was not the psu supply at fault.

The errors are occuring normally at high load, playing games etc but they occasionally occur when the system is idle or just using IE7 etc. I am sure it is not the vga card ram as I experience similar errors with different cards.

I have completed 5 passes of memtest86 successfully but have heard this is not 100% accurate at identifying ram issues.

    Any suggestions?

Have you looked at the Windows Event Viewer after a crash?

I have, the errors are not consistant and each log is different. The messages are usually 'page fault in nonpaged area' or 'irq not less or equal'.
    Example: Error code 1000008e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 f4a634a2, parameter3 b9d2f974, parameter4 00000000.

Memtest is generally reliable but not 100%.

What are the 12v rails specifications on that Thermaltake PSU? The smaller TT units are generally not very high quality and have weak rails with excessive ripple.

Yellowbeard I bow to your superior knowledge and now admit I am almost 100% sure it must be the psu. I tried upping the voltage on the ram a bit and it seemed to sort the problem out for a while but then the dreaded bsod again.

I'm no good with all this talk of amps, watts and volts so can you give me some advice when choosing a new psu? I am running the system set out in my specs with a dvd writer, cd writer and a wireless pci lan card, and now corasir ram instead of the infineon stuff. When looking at psu's how many amps do I need to check the psu can supply on the 12v rails and also, is there a minimum spec I need to look out for on the new 6 pin pci-e connector.

If this is not your department to talk about then let me know and I will post another thread.

i have been watching this thread. i have not seen you state that your ram timings and cas latency are set to the value specified. i dunno about the value ram, but i do know the XMS series is not programmed to run out the box at the speeds listed, its sent out set to boot the average motherboard so you can manually set the timings.

noticed you cranked the voltage, that would have been my 1st suggestion. my 2nd is the timings.

Gonzo, I have built a few systems before but I have never had to mess around with these types of settings in the bios, I thought they always came at the default settings out of the box. If it is the case that I need to be changing timings etc, can you give me the settings that I would need to apply as I don't have a clue where to start.

i couldnt find anything from there site, maybe DDR2 and the value range dont work like that ?

could you try your mates PSU again with a small overvolt ?

I will try it again with the other supply. What do you suggest I should increase the voltage to? I have always been a bit wary of tinkering with these settings as I have little understanding of how it works and the consequences if anything goes wrong.

0.1 shoud be enough to iron out any motherboard supply problems.
maybe a BIOS reset 1st to make sure everything is set to default ?

Sorry to be a pain Gonzo but where exactly should I be increasing the power to? I have tried raising the voltage directly to the ram (from 1.8v to 1.95v in .05 steps) but am not sure of how to increase the votage to the entire motherboard.
