    Re: AMD - Bulldozer Chitchat

The laptop costs around 599 Australian dollars which is around £385.

Regarding the desktop version of Trinity,I suspect the CPU section of the A10-5800K is probably similar to an FX4170 or slightly lower. So that should be around Core i3 2100 level I suspect overall or a tad slower(better in multi-threaded applications but weaker in lightly threaded applications). If the IGP is called an HD7660G I also suspect it should be better than an HD5670 GDDR3 or HD6570 GDDR3 ,as the HD7670 is a rebadged HD6670. The HD6650D in the Llano A8 CPUs is around HD5550 GDDR5 level performance, and in many cases can match an HD5570 or GT430 IIRC.

Here are the specifications(supposedly) of the desktop Trinity CPUs:

    http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DC4JSPvNLT...nA/s640/aa.jpg

I do like the look of the A10-5700 which has a 65W TDP. It looks like a decent improvement over the 65W A8-3820(hopefully).

    Re: AMD - Bulldozer Chitchat

    Official Trinity slides leaked:

    http://vr-zone.com/articles/amd-trin...on-/15716.html

It seems this table is true:

    http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DC4JSPvNLT...nA/s640/aa.jpg

It also seems to have FMA3 too.

The article says they are going to run a few benchmarks too.

I'm really hoping AMD enable VCE functionality soon, maybe with the release of Trinity?

    Re: AMD - Bulldozer Chitchat

Very interested in the A10-5700 and the A8-5500. I've got a A6-3500 atm and it's pretty good but slightly lacking in performance on both the CPU and GPU front but good enough to last me till Trinity comes out. Can't complain for £25 though!

What fabrication level is Trinity made on btw?

EDIT: Ah it's 32nm. I didn't realise Llano was also 32nm too though.

    £25? I paid over £60!

Yeah it uses the same GloFo 32nm SOI process AFAIK.

    Re: AMD - Bulldozer Chitchat

Amazon used from a private seller. Got a Asus F1A75M-I Deluxe + A6-3500 together for £69.69 delivered. I was really lucky with that one IMO. It was just a random search too.

I'm looking to get a 2560*1440 monitor but I'm not sure if any of the mini ITX A85/FM2 boards will have dual link DVI as I've found no H67, Z68, H77, Z77 or FM1 mini ITX board (apart from Zotac with their integrated GT520/430) with dual link DVI. This Asus I've got is close with a DP connector though (I can use a DP to dual link DVI, but it costs roughly £40-50...).

Why not get a DP compatible monitor? The Dell I'm using accepts DP/DVI/D-Dub.

I'm not a fan of the antiglare on the Dell Ultrasharp series. Plus, the difference is more than the adapter itself.

    Some strategy slides from AMD:

However, there seems to be a picture of an AMD Trinity Ultra Thin reference notebook.

    Re: AMD - Bulldozer Chitchat

Sounds good but they better deliver 30% improvement over Bulldozer otherwise I think Piledriver will be another flop in the desktop segment. Intel has left the door open with lower than expected performance increase with Ivy Bridge. If Piledriver performs within 5-10% of Ivy Bridge at a competitive price point I'll probably get it, anything less and I'm not interested.

Even if it does get within 10% of ivy bridge - will it still use twice the electricity? If so - it's still dead in the water IMHO.

If you look at more recent reviews of BD, using newer silicon, power use is far better than the early samples used in early reviews. So, combined with a mature process, the architectural improvements should put Piledriver miles ahead of Bulldozer in terms of performance/watt.

The most important metrics are idle and lower load power consumption IMHO for CPUs being used in ATX systems. Higher load(the 125W AMD TDP level and 130W Intel TPD level) can be controlled with any modern desktop ATX case and TBH the GPU is often the part which consumes the most power and very few people seem to worry about this it seems. Bulldozer power consumption was only really very, very poor when overclocked(first generation Core i7 level) and hopefully this will be somewhat less with Vishera and less than Thuban as it will mean cheaper coolers can be used. Stock was comparable to the previous generation at load and hopefully it can be much faster at the same power comsumption and TDP,ie, any efficiency improvements are put towards improving stock performance. Until AMD moves to 28NM,I don't think their desktop PCs will shift away from the standard 125W TDP level for the higher end parts.

Only with SFF rigs, like I use, does load power consumption and higher TDP really have an effect due to limited cooling and in laptops with regards to cooling and battery life.

Got any links for newer reviews? I've been trying to find one of the FX-4170 but they seem non-existent.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

It is a 125W TDP part. It looks like an overclocked FX4100.
