    Haha, fair point

KitGuru's review shows a heck of a lot more on the 2700k's overclocking abilities though

They put 1.5V through it though!!

Even OcUK say that you really should not be exceeding 1.38V for long term usage:

That review seems to have quite favourable FX8150 numbers too.

I'm a million miles away from having any expertise in all this, just a learner, interesting/valid point you make though.

It will be interesting to see some further comprehensive tests and comparisons performed by the experts. Especially OC'd at the best levels, like you say, for very stable long term use - that's what I got mine for, I'm going to OC my 2700k but only to a totally safe long term level :-)

Jeez, the load power consumption of that @ 5Ghz vs Bulldozer (even @ stock) is unreal!

What has that got to do with anything?

No surprise as it's the same as we knew before - Bulldozer sucks the juice when in full flow - 8 cores will tend to do that!

Overclocking the 2700k leads to a bigger increase in power in terms of % increase (it almost doubles), but it started from such a low point that it still doesn't look horrendous when overclocked.

OcUK actually contacted Intel so those safe voltages are from Intel.

You can probably run it higher. However, I would push the voltages higher only a couple of years down the line when the extra performance might be needed and you intend to replace the CPU in a year or so.

When it comes to overclocking in many cases CPUs start to hit "walls" meaning the voltage increase to get say another 100MHZ is disproportionately higher than before. At this point I usually stop unless I want a quick run for benching or don't care if I bork the CPU(at the end of its lifespan). For long term use getting another 5% to 10% overclock with silly voltages is not worth IMHO although YMMV.

Thosepower consumption figures are awesome. intel should be proud.

Question Re: Full Review: Intel Core i7 2700k - Initial O/C 5ghz with only Modest Air Cooling.

Hi . i'm just waiting for my build with 2700k to be finished but the kitguru review has me worried as they failed to get a good OC on the same mobo as my build is using, weve got the corsair hydo 80 as cooler but as we were wanting 5ghz the reviews worried us

BTW (no HT) comp is for computer chess so no HT is needed for it

Anyone know why kitguru reviewers failed with that mobo(Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 ) ?

How safe is overclocking something like this?

At 1.512V? Not safe at all that is a ridiculous voltage to be putting through a SB processor.

The temperature issues would worry me and once you've exceeded the voltage your warranty is gone.

£240 spent which could easily go down the drain.
