What would perform better with games + Blu-rays + 3D?

Hey guys, planning my build and just wondering what option out of these two is better?

I want to use it for gaming and watching Blu-Rays and in the future I'll want to utilise the 3D technology, don't worry about the cooler as I'll be watercooling.

I don't care about AMD Vs Intel etc and I know people may make it into that debate. All I would like is facts and figures showing what performs best, so ignoring the names, what will run my system more effectively?

I have always been an AMD fan but as Bulldozer was a let down maybe it is time to change...I also know in the next 6 months both companies will be releasing a new system.

The intel is a little cheaper however the the GPU for intel is more expensive.

    Looking forward to your replies

The second one. However, like I mentioned earlier, the FX8170 should be out soon so it might be worth seeing how well this will overclock. Also, the HD7900 range should be available for retail next month. The cheaper HD7800 series is meant to be released a month or two afterwards AFAIK.

I'd also go for the 2nd one..

Only thing is, you mention you're wanting to use it for gaming, but I can't see a graphics card in those lists. Is that something you'll be buying separately?

    What? Buy a GPU separately.

Re: What would perform better with games + Blu-rays + 3D?

Sorry...I meant nVidia cost more than ATi...sorry!!

I can get a HD6970 for about £205 but a GTX 580 will put me back over £300

Although I did read many reviews last night, apparently AMD is better at games but overall it's performance is below the i5. So if I can sort a GPU then I think I will be either heading a long the i5 route or a cheap AMD set up to last until piledriver!

Re: What would perform better with games + Blu-rays + 3D?

99.99% of the time, the difference between the two systems will be in-perceptible for the purposes you have asked about.....the graphics card is going to be more of the deciding factor and a lot more important.

When you say "3D"....are you talking just 3D BluRays or do you want to do stereoscopic gaming as well?

If you want to game in 3D then you really need to think about the equipment your using as there are issues with 3D that can cause huge IQ issues.

    Thanks for that!

I want to watch 3D BluRays mainly however if I had 3D capabilities I would probably want to try 3D gaming.

Would you say that it would be better to get the AMD with the better graphics card? (With nVidia I'd have to go with a 560 or potentially if I can stretch a 570)

Do you have a link to the issues?

I haven't got one yet, that will come after the build is complete.

    EDIT:

Just read Cats monthly build guide and the LG W2363D-PF seems quite good

Re: What would perform better with games + Blu-rays + 3D?

If you are going with a 3D monitor (as opposed to a 3D TV), then you probably want to stick to nVidia and a 3dVision kit. Then you won't have any of the IQ issues (they are caused by single link DVI/HDMI not having enough bandwidth for 1080p@60Hz stereoscopic)

Yeah it will most definitely be a monitor as opposed to a 3D TV.

You sound as if you think only AMD GPUs work with AMD CPUs, and only NVIDIA works with Intel. It really doesn't matter - pick the best you can afford.

Even better, wait for the new GPU series. I think AMD have intentions of releasing near the start of 2012, not so sure about NVIDIA though...

I thought this was the case....

I thought if I had an intel board I would need to SLi and with AMD it would be crossfire? Hence the nvidia and intel + amd and ATI....

If this is wrong my decision is sorted

Both Intel and AMD motherboards can now do either SLI or Crossfire.

Wait until the new year to buy the CPU. A lot of the higher Intel and AMD CPUs have been inflated in price in the follow up to Christmas.

On top of this choose your own parts - it will end up much cheaper. I would wait until the end of January or early February. RAM is quite cheap ATM and you get 16GB of DDR3 for between £50 to £70. However,8GB should be more than enough for a while.

One thing though - the AMD 990FX motherboards do 16X/16X Crossfire and SLI. The 990X and Z68 based motherboards do 8X/8X Crossfire and SLI.
