    i7 2600K vs i7 2700K

    Hi,

I was wondering if there's any earth-shattering difference between the two processors? I'm completely overhauling my rig at the moment and am looking to use it mainly for games and a little bit of Studio Max work. I'll be overclocking it at some stage too.

    Thanks

    Re: i7 2600K vs i7 2700K

No, there isn't. They're identical except for clockspeed, which is basically irrelevant since they both have unlocked multis anyway.

There is an outside chance that the 2700, given it has a marginally higher base clock, might overclock marginally higher too, but (as usual with overclocking) absolutely nothing is guaranteed.

May as well stick with the 2600 (assuming it's cheaper, of course!)

It's not worth the extra money to be honest, if it's £5/£10 then sure why not but not worth like £50, you can o/c a 2600k to the same specs as a 2700k really and you won't ever need to overclock it for graphics work etc.

Are you willing to splash out the extra cash for not much performance difference and OC it a tiny bit higher?

They are the questions you should be asking yourself after reading these replies!!!!

basically they are the same, only 0.1ghz difference, but some people said INTEL has picked better quality chips for 2700k, so 2700k has better OC ability than 2600k...I donno if this is true.

    Re: i7 2600K vs i7 2700K

If you looking to do high end overclocking, might be worth getting 2700k.
From what I read seem that it can reach higher OC, but then that could of just been batch they recived.

Echoing everyone else- not worth it. What are you going to use it for because the forums are usually 2500k vs 2600k and the consensus is that 2500k is best bang for buck for gaming. i7s only worth it if video encoding

    Re: i7 2600K vs i7 2700K

There is very little in it, as others have said you may get very little more from overclocking a 2700k over the 2600k. But that is a slim possibility, they are both built on the same tech and have the same theoretical max oc.

The only deciding factor would be whether it is worth having the extra 100MHz at stock speeds ...

Personally I dont seem much point in the difference and would go for a 2600k and put the saved money from the chip upgrade onto something else such as getting a intel performance tuning protection plan to cover your chip with the overclock ... but thats just my 2 cents on it no doubt some people would disagree
