    Best heatsink for ~£15?

Friend needs a new heatsink and i havent bought an air one in awhile (watercooled for a few years), has much changed?

    Seen this : http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...Dhotukdeals-21
IIRC the xigmatek s1283 was a solid cooler, is it worth £15 or are there better alternatives?
Its for a s775 motherboard. Perhaps he will upgrade in a year or two so if its compatible with other sockets its a bonus.

    Current cpu is a q6600.

Take a look at the new Zalman CNPS 5X I have it and I have to say it does the job very well, keeps me FX-6100 (oc to 4 Ghz) at a frosty 40 degrees on full load.

It has pretty good reviews for its price. It is overpriced on Amazon, if you have a scan account its only £15 there. Where I got mine from.

Can't go wrong with a Freezer Pro at that price.

I have heard the Freezer Pro 7 is quite a bad cooler. I read it on HardwareSecrets.com, apparently it doesn't have a good price/performance ratio.

and the price performance ratio varies with the price, get it cheap, bargain!

PS it is an excellent cooler too.

Wouldn't you be better advising your friend to spend a little more on a cooler? To have a q6600 and not overclock it would be a shame. The freezer 7 might not keep an oc'd q6600 cool enough. The extra performance a £25 or £30 cooler brings would be worth waiting til next pay day

Play have the Gaia or whatever; the replacement for the 1283 for £15. Frostytech marks it as not being too bad.

That's wrong on all accounts. It's a good cooler, and it's a bargain. Unless you are massively overvolting then it's very capable - if you are massively overvolting, and live in a warm country, then you'll be spending more than £15 on a cooler.

(I've used them on every build apart from my skt 1366 system).

    Re: Best heatsink for ~£15?

The contact surface on the Artic freezer units I've had were not that great tbh but, They did work well and were cheap.

Wasn't the coolermaster hyper 212 supposed to be another great cooler?

    Re: Best heatsink for ~£15?

I have used the s1283's little brothers in 2 builds and they are excellant coolers. Frosty rated the 983 (think that the correct numbers) much better than the freezer 7 and even the bigger freezer 13.
