Phenom X6 1045T overclocking

This chip I have seems like a gem, I finally got the couple of bits I needed to redo my water cooling so after installing all my bits I dropped the NB, Ram and HT multi's and started cranking up the HT ref, it will do 3.8ghz on stock volts (1.25v) which is a 1.1ghz increase, that is a mental result, and after putting the ram/nb to close to stock settings, stable through 10 loops of IBT on maximum stress level.

So after finding that out, I decided to see how much I could push this chip, so far I have reached 4ghz (300x13.5@1.325v) with the NB and HT running at 2.4 and my ram at 1600mhz with temps reported in coretemp as 27C and in overdrive as 39C, and as before it passed 10 loops of IBT I will see how much further I can push it at the weekend.

And on the subject of Overdrive, it is the best thing I have ever used to overclock, full stop, it is so easy to add a few mhz, or bump the volts and find a stable setting before committing it in the bios

Thanks for this, I used OverDrive and I must admit it is much better than most software. I was using ASUS AI Suite II, it is OK, but freezes the PC a lot.

AMD OverDrive is the best thing to use for me.

Also, want to ask, AMD OverDrive shows each cores frequency, why is it that when overclocked and stress tested (Prime95) only 4 out of 6 of my cores are working to the max. The rest work at 4.5 Ghz, but the other two report as 1.6 Ghz, and THEY are the ones that failed and produced errors in Prime95?

3.8 stock volts is pretty darn good! Looks like you got a good 'un there!

I have a DDC3.2 going to a EK supreme HF, going to an xspc crossflow then a 240mm rad (not sure who made it) then into a phobya dual bay res and then back to the pump total water capacity is a little more than 2L, was thinking of adding a gpu block into it, but the asus gtx460 I have is quiet enough (60C at full load 38% fan), although it is set at stock volts on the bios I have noticed that it is a little higher in cpu-z due to load line calibration, but still, I have been messing about with it and have had it to 4.6-4.8ish though it needs plenty of volts to get to that and I wouldn't really describe the 4.8 as stable, as I was getting errors, though I think they may be from the motherboard, as the 990fx chipset was amazingly hot at that point.

Mike01: I am not an expert with amd boards and overclocking, this is the first amd chip I have had in a long while* so I am not sure why your chip is showing different speeds, is it an FX processor? as they can clock the cores independantly, it could be that you are only stressing 4 threads and the rest have downclocked, also it is a good idea to disable turbo core, C1E and cool and quiet when overclocking and testing, after you are happy turn C&C back on but leave turbo off.


*my htpc is amd based, but have never even entertained the thought of overclocking that.

I think it may be because my 1045T must be a very late one, the moment I bought it, they seemed to go out of stock for good, and because of that they had a long time to get the manufacturing process perfected, not to mention that I couldn't find any BE x6's at the time, so presumably they weren't making them and just binning all the processors as standard x6's
Bu yeah, I am really happy with it, though still intend to move to piledriver if it performs well.

They were cracking value. It's a shame they've force-faded them out - you cant get em no more! AMD want to force us to buy FX chips instead. No thanks - why would I want to go backwards and get a "next gen" FX chip thats slower in almost every measured way???

Because AMD are responding to the realisation that they will never catch up on Intel's process lead and therefore have very little chance of catching them in performance.

I hope their new direction works for them, I would hate the Windows market to end up just with Intel.

I must admit I did look at the 1100T as a possible last update for my AM2+ system, but doesn't quite seem worth the money to me.

Wow, some decent gains there. Is it possible to overclock using software? It seems that my Asus motherboard doesn't allow overclocking in the bios which is a shame. Currently my phenom II x4 id unlocked to 6 cores and at the stock 3.0ghz, but if I can push it to 4ghz I'd be more than happy.

Which motherboard is that? I have only ever seen one Asus board that didn't allow overclocking and that was a long time ago now (Socket 754) and core unlocking is a far more advanced feature than multiplier changing on a black edition cpu!

It's this one. I cant seem to find anything in the bios which allows you to overclock or alter any settings. Any advice greatly appreciated as I'd love to push the CPU up a notch.

That board definatly supports overclocking! This may sound silly but have you read the manual? The overclocking section must be in there somewhere!

Usually you have to turn bus speed, multiplier and voltages from auto to manual and then you can fiddle.

It's a Black Edition CPU, so you should be able to just crank up the multiplier. My dad has that board, I'm sure I saw overclocking settings in it.

The 1045T is multiplier locked and is not a Black Edition. However,the 95W Phenom II X6 1055T was supposed to be decent for overclocking too.

UPDATE: All was fine, just the motherboard was setting the memory values to some 'optimized' values rather than the SPD settings. Once I reset them, all was OK.


Sorry for reopening a slightly old thread, but I thought someone could give me some advice.

On reading this thread, I wanted in on the action. I have a Gigabyte GA-890FXA-UD5. My cooler is a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme. I have 8gb of memory installed (2x4gb). I ordered a 1045T off of Amazon. I got this one: http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K10/AM...5TWFK6DGR.html

So I tested the CPU for a couple of days straight on stock just to make sure it wasn't faulty before I OCed the heck out of it. Once that was done, I was ready to go.

To start with I thought, 'what the hey' - I dropped the HT, NB and memory multipliers and set the FSB to 250. This put the chip at 3375-ish, with all other frequencies set to stock (due to the dropped multipliers). I thought that since it turbos to around 3200MHz, this should be a good start.

It wouldn't even post!

So I bumped up the CPU NB VID voltage and CPU voltage, and still no POST. Then I lowered the memory multiplier to 4x, so the memory (rated at 1600) was now running at only 1000MHz. It POSTed. So I started OCCT with a large dataset, and within a few minutes, BANG - error.

I set the voltage to 1.425 (I know, hothothot) hoping it would now work. Still OCCT errors out.

Temperatures are hovering around the 53ish when OCCT is running.

Any advice? Or do I just have a duff chip?
