Re: AMD - Piledriver chitchat
oh dear, he really doesnt have a clue... 60hz+ screens, what is this guy smoking? Ive yet to find a display that is under 60hz...470sli is a solid setup and a gtx670 wont touch that stuff as we all know the 600 series is a horribly compute handicapped gpu, where as the 400 is good at computing and gaming (although at a high tdp :P). The gtx470 sli setup will be pretty damn close to the 670 in most scenarios and the only real benefit is dropping a second card and also reducing power usage.
4ghz SB for skyrim? Strong troll... Skyrim is a terrible port and it will run on most systems, my setup is buttery smooth with a 2500k and gtx460 (at stock clocks when i was on skyrim) at 1080p, seems a silly guy this dirty larry. The only way i could agree with him was if we were talking about Arma 2, in that case you need i7 or 24 core opterons at 12Ghz and about 10 gtx680/7970s !. Performance on that game is dire, only game that makes my system crawl to a halt... even on ULTRA LOW!

Only reason my HTPC cost more than that was because I splashed out on a pretty high end 785G mobo with all the bells and whistles ;) But given how my Sempron runs it I imagine a dual-core Llano, basic FM1 mobo and 4GB of fast DDR3 (1600MHz+) would eat it for breakfast, for less than £100 ;)
EDIT: OK, just over £100, but near enough ;)

wait wait wait wait wait. He 3D games on a 50", 400Hz 1080p screen? With that pixel pitch 3D games must look like running around in minecraft... :o
Re: AMD - Piledriver chitchat
The best one for me on another forum is that supposedly a Core2 quad or a Phenom II X4 running at 3.5GHZ to 4GHZ bottlenecks an HD5850 1GB so much in MMOs,that you get tripling of framerates moving too a Core i5 2500K at 4GHZ+ it seems. The games cited include WoW.

That's probably got some truth in it (not tripling, obviously), in all fairness, however i don't think it matters when you're running at 120+FPS anyway. :|
Edit: The thing that gets me about the constant IVB/SNB recommendations is that the MHz jump was so big from 1156 to 1155 that the results are skewed when people try and compare them.
Theres nearly 800MHz difference between the i5 750 and the 2500K before you take IPC improvements into account.

He was running an HD5850 1GB and said he went from 20FPS to 60FPS in MMO games.
It was because some chap said his mildy overclocked FX8150 was fine with an HD6950 2GB in the games he played. The guy did not even ask what games he was running but geek/nerd raged against him. Considering performance in many games would not be far off a Phenom II X4,I told him he might be OK and get playable framerates, even though a Core i5 2500K would be a better choice(obviously). Started at me then!
Re: AMD - Piledriver chitchat
I'm playing Diablo 3 on my Llano and it runs at 20fps on 2560x1440! I've got everything Textures, Physics and Clutter on High whilst AA and Shadows are off as textures, physics and clutter don't seem to reduce my FPS. I'm surprised that it's been playable so far but sometimes in dungeon crawls, it drops to sub 15 fps and that's quite hard to play with.
League of Legends runs fine with everything on Very High apart from with shadows off again. I get about 30-50fps on it.
Was hoping for more of a performance boost in terms of graphics from Trinity but as that's an initial test, I can't really make a comment like that yet. If Trinity still has the dual graphics mode then I may consider getting a 6570 and pairing that up as that should fit in the case. Not sure if I'll have the time to play LoL or D3 in my 3rd year at uni though!

with the 6670 the more ram you had the more could be assigned to hypercaching (1 gig card could be `upped` to a 3 gig card with the hypercache)
Re: AMD - Piledriver chitchat
What is all this? Nobody ever talks about Minesweeper, on my PC I can barely get more that 20fps on that game! :p
It seems like the thread has drifted off topic a wee bit and moved on to bashing the members of another forum, which the person in question may deserve, but it doesn't reflect well on us. IMHO.

Aye you're right, i just thought nit was comical how that guy pretty much regurgitated what CTF said, except he meant it.

He sounds like a gamer that won't play a game with settings below "Ultra" and has money to splash on new hardware every year.
Re: AMD - Piledriver chitchat
Hexus topic drift,NEVER!!:p
Moving back onto track(even though I derailed the train),I do hope AMD,after the FX8150 launch, uses some sense when pricing their CPUs this time.

So it is. Even odder is the 3 slots configuration:
4GB x 2 & 2GB x 1
I guess they had some 2GB dimms to dump?

Fair enough, but then why not 12 or 16? I mean, 10GB must be ... what, an 8GB kit and a 2GB kit?

Muphry strikes
Re: AMD - Piledriver chitchat
as DanceswithUnix said - maybe they have a mountain of 2gb sticks to offload#?
