    LGA775 Artic Pro cooler replacement

Well yesterday evening I noticed the PC was somehow sluggish, after a quick look I noticed the CPU temperatures were really high and the pc somehow quiet

The CPU cooler fan has stopped completely and the ball bearing attachment seems somehow loose/broken.

So unless something is escaping me I need a new cooler with similar/decent performance, preferably compatible with newer sockets and that doesn't require me to fiddle too much with an already old system (removing the Motherboard to mount brackets and so on).

Perhaps the Arctic Freezer 13 Pro?

Budget £20-£25 and system details on the left.

    Thanks in advance.

Re: LGA775 Artic Pro cooler replacement

Well for no apparent reason the fan started working again, but to be on the safe side I am still looking to it replace anyway.

The Coolermaster Hyper TX3 EVO seems well reviewed but I wouldn't mind paying more for a better performer, any idea how the Zalman CNPS7X-LED and the Arctic Freezer 13 Pro compare performance wise?

Or any other similarly priced/back plate free cooler for that matter.

    Thanks again.

Here you are http://www.ccreviews.eu/CM_Hyper_TX3_evo bear in mind the test system is an i7 cpu overclocked and at stock settings so allow for a slight increase in Temps hope this helps...

Re: LGA775 Artic Pro cooler replacement

Well I thought I might as well do the job properly and just get the Hyper 212 evo from Scan.

Issue is although the case is big enough the motherboard has a small heatsink right beside the CPU socket:

(The heatsink with Asus printed in blue letters)

My current cooler just about clears it but I am uncertain if the already wider Hyper 212 would be tall enough to stand above the motherboard heatsink.

If I get it and it doesn't fit where do I stand in terms of returning the cooler? would I be able to do so?

Not really a hardware question but I thought It would be a waste to open another thread, thanks once again.

Under DSR (Distance Selling Regs) you can return something bought online if it is unsuitable - you have 7 days to notify the etailer, and 28 days it return it at your cost. It has to be in an "unused condition", ie not covered in thermal grease!

You can usually mount the HSF either N/S or E/W, depending where your exhaust fans are. Clearance shouldn't be an issue with the Asus heatsink (difficult to tell) as the 212 is fairly tall - I had to modify my case to fit my 212+ in! You're more likely to get problems with the memory, especially DDR with tall heatspreaders, and if you use all 4 DIMM slots.

Re: LGA775 Artic Pro cooler replacement

yes it should fit no problem.

the big issue was with the nvidia chipset boards the northbridges on those ran very hot so had large heatsinks and a lot of VRM's all of which needed heatsinks the socket was surrounded on all sides by high heatsinks.

Well, as long as I am not stuck with the cooler if it doesn't fit I am happy.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

Make sure you check that it's plugged in to the CPU Fan slot on your mobo. Go into the BIOS and see if there is a alarm for low CPU FAN RPMs that way if it fails again at least you won't be damaging the CPU again.

CPU's massively cut down the speed and power if they overheat and will shutdown the pc before it become dangerous (well in theory)

I think that the Arctic Cooler i30 is meant to be better than the Freezer 13, but I'm not 100% on that.
