Cheap quiet multi cooler for under £15?

    Hey Hexites,

Having used both the stock AMD and stock Intel coolers, I feel they're both quite loud, even at low speeds due to the small/poor fan. Does anyone have any recommendations for a cooler that performs better than the stock ones whilst being more quiet?

I know that the CM Hyper 212 is beastly at cooling and is the best budget cooler, but that's £20 and it's overkill for something like a Celeron G530.

Re: Cheap quiet multi cooler for under £15?

The Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 features an "Ultra quiet 92mm PWM fan", and can be found for ~£15. (The CM Hyper TX3/EVO are around the same price, and 92mm.)

It's a capable budget cooler, and should be a fair bit quieter than the stock HSF - but probably not as quiet as a good 120mm design.

Overkill is better than underkill, so I'd recommend the 212 Quiet (212+ is discontinued?) for the £5 extra. Ideal if you plan on upgrading later, and you can add a second 120mm fan for push/pull.

PS I have an unused 212+ without fan (I stole it for push/pull), but after the postage and cost of a decent 120mm fan, you're probably better off getting a new all-in-one HSF!

PPS The Arctic Cooling Alpine 11 Pro Rev 2 is ~£8, using a 92mm fan and low-profile design, similar to stock HSF. Should be quieter, but by how much? (Noise Level: 0.4Sone ?!)

Re: Cheap quiet multi cooler for under £15?

Thing is, I just want to cool my Celeron G530 more quietly as it runs cool enough anyway. The stock intel fan is horrible though. Reason I wanted a multi cooler was so that I could use this a backup cooler.

The Celeron G530 was £26 itself, so you can see why the thought of spending £20 on a cooler puts me off a bit.

Wow, I can't even give stuff away!

Check out "Arctic Cooling Alpine 11 GT Rev.2" (80mm, £4.99) or "Arctic Cooling Alpine 11 Rev. 2" (92mm, £5.99), should be under a tenner with P&P.

    Cheaper still, buy some earplugs.

Re: Cheap quiet multi cooler for under £15?

It's a shame I can't get a tower cooler for under £10. I'll scrounge around eBay and see if I can pick up any bargains. Thanks for the help though!

Re: Cheap quiet multi cooler for under £15?

yes you can pick up some cheap cooler 2nd hand, a cooler doesn't wear out, as long as the heat pipes are not pierced they work as well as the did new, dust build up can be simply washed off.
fans can be replaced if needed.
scan's got the old northQ on sale cheap atm http://www.scan.co.uk/products/north...54-939-940-am2 not the best but the Celeron G530 is not a hot chip and it's still a load better than a stock cooler.
big problem is not 1156/1155 mouning, which is a problem you'll have with 2nd hand as well.
Some cooler you can get new mounting kits for others you'll have to get creative.

I'd suggest looking for a scythe cooler, they've not changed the mounting kit in years, they have two the push in clips http://www.scan.co.uk/products/scyth...mounting-clips and the screw on http://www.scan.co.uk/products/scyth...mounting-clips
    here we go http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Scythe-Mug...item3a76ba6ae0

PS nice find on a Celeron G530 that cheap

Re: Cheap quiet multi cooler for under £15?

Yup I bidded the 99p on that already. I don't think custom mounting will work as it'll need a lot of pressure applied to cool properly. For the hours I'm on eBay, I could have probably have earnt more money than I saved though!

I do hate pushpins though but I guess it's not the days where I'm constantly upgrading or changing CPUs so I shouldn't need to worry.
