Looking at AMD quad cpus suggestions?

I sold my pc and currently need a new system, nothing to special but a rig that isnt going to slow me down decided with amd as no one seems to have a core i5 2400 to sell

So i was looking at AMD Athlon II X4 651 Black Edition on scan. cannot for the life of me find a decent review comparing it at all! so ive no idea what im looking for i want to spend between £50 - £100 on the cpu i do have more but if i dont need the power....logic you see

    So suggestions?

What are you doing with the PC?? Do you have a motherboard?? Do you overclock??

I would look at an FX6300 once retailers have it around £100. Dabs will have it at around that price:

Re: Looking at AMD quad cpus suggestions?

Athlon II X4 651 is a Llano A8-3870k with the GPU disabled. CPU performance wise it'll be exactly the same as that.

As others have asked, what do you have, what don't you have, and what do you plan to do with it? For my money the best all-round option right now is the A10-5800k as the GPU in it can handle low to mid quality 1080p gaming reasonably well - so for £100 you might get all the CPU and GPU grunt that you need. CPUwise it performs a bit better than the A8-3870k, so also a bit better the the 651, overall, although it does give and take a bit due to being Piledriver architecture. But if you're planning on gaming at mid quality or higher and plan on getting a discrete card, then the FX6300 makes a lot more sense as you get a lot more CPU for your money.

All down to what you actually need, really

Re: Looking at AMD quad cpus suggestions?

Ah i see right all i need is the cpu and motherboard, i have a gpu and memory as all the other bits i would need XD so after just raw performance from a cpu view nothing like the gpu i wont use the onboard gpu!

What GPU have you got? Sounds to me like your best value choice is going to be the FX6300 like CAT suggested - very good processor for the price

Depends which reviews you look at but the more reliable ones tend to paint them in an above average light.

must be looking in the wrong place im an AMD newbie ive not used it since the er...well about 10 years ago XD

to be more blunt i want a cpu that can handle gaming (pretty light as im on the ps3 alot now) but one that can also handle some light video editing doesnt need to be super quick just one that wont slow me down to much

Light gaming on a GTX580? Crazy fool!

go for a 970 Motherboard and the FX6300

or if you really do want LIGHT gaming then sell the 580 and get

    A75 motherboard and a 5700/5800K

CTF might know of one, but as far as i know there isnt any 9 series AMD boards for mATX. You could drop down to 8 series and risk possible compatibility issues (if its just a bios update let me know and i can loan you an AM3 CPU to get you going), otherwise i would go for an FM2 setup
