CPU fan don't spin from cold start !!

Hello

Yesterday morning i went to put the computer on only to find on start up my fan alarm came on only to stop when the windows was fully loaded !! When i checked again i saw the fan move slightly then kicks in and everything is fine with no problems.
now i can restart and everything is ok and the problem seems to set off from a cold start. At the moment we have no hot water or heating so it it very cold in the house .Could it be that the stock fan bearing is effected from this ??
My other solutions would be the power supply, motherboard or even the battery ??

From a cold start motherboards usually run the fan at full speed for a moment then slow them down with a temperature sensor. Fans can't always start spinning if they're at a low voltage from the beginning, are you using an in-line resistor or external fan controller?

It's normal for there to be a split second gap before the CPU fan powers up; that shouldn't be what's causing the alarm.

Have you checked the BIOS to see what RPM the alarm's set for and what your fan is delivering? If it's variable speed it may be starting out with low revs in your cold house.

This is a stock cpu fan !! I did see the fan start up full but it then stop with slight jerky movement then when fully loaded its all ok ..

i have got the alarm set for when the fan stops which i sure is causing the alarm to go off .If i set it as off that might stop the alarm but i will have to wait until the comp has been off for awhile .

You could turn off the warning as long as you have a temperature warning set reasonably low (default is sometimes a bit toasty for my taste), but it seems like the fan may not be spinning up early because of the cold.

cheers people i have set fan warning off and i have my cpu temp shown on my screen !! i will give it a spring clean anyway
Each core shows as being 4c !! heating fixed in morning i hope

Problem solved

Due to no heating and hot water for 3 days it was bloody cold !! This effected the fan from spinning upon a cold start up
With my case opened at the time my cpu was running a idle temperature of 13c

You have to trap the fault string on the blue screen to determine that. It could just be a coincidence.

As for the OP, have you given you system a clean recently? All sorts of cr@p can get stuck in the fan/heatsink, and gentle use of a vaccuum cleaner or bottle of compressed air can sort a world of problems.
