    PSU for Nas

    Hi,

Can someone please recommend me a good psu for a Nas build. It will be running 247 and I need to have enough Sata connections for at least 6 hard drives

    Thanks

    Re: PSU for Nas

Since it's a NAS, I'm assuming it won't be on show so this is non-modular. It's also high efficiency so should run quiet and cool.

It's got the six connectors you need out of the box. Hard drives need very little power compared to some of the other computer parts. Starting up, they may peak at 30W. Typical operational may be about 15 and idle below 10. Complete idle is usually only a few watts.

How much are you going to spend?

The seasonic psu is decent but there are a few more choices such as the seasonic g series or a fanless psu if you can afford it.

I dont actually have a set budget, its funny you say that I was looking at this PSU earlier today!!!

Seasonic FANLESS 520W Platinum SS-520FL2 Power Supply 80+ Platinum (sorry couldnt post a URL due to not having made enough posts, bizarre!)

I love my peace and quiet, might not be worth as the hard drives will be making all the noise though

    Re: PSU for Nas

It is a quality unit and if you have the money i would get it. There is also a 460 watt version if you want to save some money. The seasonic G-450 is also a decent unit and both power supplys have 6 sata connectors.

As you said though, the hard drives will be making most of the noise and i dont think the system would be using enough power to cause the fan on the g-450 to make a noise either.
