    have a sabertooth 990FX with AMD 9590.

now its awesome to have this much power BUT , im not using it working full time now and not gaming so much , I really not sure if this rig is truly what I need.

Sell it. Once it's gone and you've got something more modest you'll never notice the difference.

Yup, if you've no time then it's not worth it, get something lower-powered and enjoy the cash (buy a console maybe?)
    That's what I did & didn't regret it.

Re: do i keep or sell?

I dunno,I probably would just keep it unless you need the money now. Its nice to be able to just fire up a game if the free time presents itself, without worrying if it will run. Moreover,I suspect the FX9590 will be the last AMD CPU of its type as I expect them to move more towards laptop APUs in the future.

Re: do i keep or sell?

I would keep it but downclock it a bit for power/noise requirements.

in a few years time how do you know what software and games will be about?

my previous computer lasted 7 years, current one is nearly 5. so going by that, just think, you wont need to buy a new PC until the Japanese Olympics in 2020

unless you really need the hundred or so quid anytime soon that youll get from selling

edit: another reason to keep it:
windows/all your software/games are already installed and working. do you want to spend time setting up another rig, when you can just jump on that one whenever and bash out a quick game of something when you feel the need?

Re: do i keep or sell?

    Agree with Lee and Cat.

First it is a historical piece of IT (maybe the last high end by AMD).
Second is never bad to know that you have performance a couple of clicks away if you will follow the next step.
Third just turn off some cores and underclock and undervoltage the CPU.
Your CPU plus MoBo should be able to do that.

You can just create an underclock profile in the BIOS for one active CPU module only, underclocked and voltaged and if you need, restore settings or overclock.

Or you can make a new hobby out of reducing consumption and thermal output by as much as possible. Your call.

It doesn't make sense to keep something expensive that you don't use. I would sell it now before the value of it all drops.

Re: do i keep or sell?

Recently sold AMD FX 9590 went for £200ish. With Sabertooth as bundle for £300 (I think).
Looking at it like that does makes sense to sell it :-D

Re: do i keep or sell?

If you sell it, you'll need to replace it with someone that costs as much new as you got second hand, which won't be as powerful. I would keep it, as it will stay powerful for years to come

Re: do i keep or sell?

As above with Zak, I kept my high end PCs when moving to Macs for things like DVDFab and virtual machines even though I have very little spare time due to work but the virtuals machines are work related atleast...

However the fact they are going to silly high prices on the bay means it still tempting to sell it.

Re: do i keep or sell?

Much as MrRockliffe and others have said, I'd keep.

But I suppose it comes down to what the net cash gain between what you'd get if you sokd, and what a lower-spec replacement would cost, and what that money means to you.

Rhetorical questions .... how much do you get, take home, at end of month? How much is disposable, after rent/mortgage, food, utilities, travel costs, etc. What's going on in your life .... are you buying and trying to equip a home, etc?

If you gain, say, £100 net, what does that mean to you, now? A bit more cash in the bank? A couple of trips to a restaurant (or one trip, for one person, if you have a penchant for Michelin stars)? Or does it mean being able to afford something you either need, or really want, that you otherwise can't afford?

It's kind-of the opposite of opportunity cost, opportunity benefit if you like - what will the cash you get, net, enable you to do that you can't if you don't sell? Because that is the real value of selling.

Re: do i keep or sell?

I've lost count of the amount of times I've held onto things I've not been using. I've kept it just because I either can't be bothered to write an ebay ad out, or because I thought I might want it again.
Then sometime later I regret it, because it's now worthless.
My advice would be to sell it if you don't need it.
