Question CoreTemp CPU temp spikes, and drops, i7 3770k

    Hi All,

I've had a i7 3770k running stock, with stock heat sink and fan for nearly two years and never had issues. Now CoreTemp averages about 40/50 on all four cores. When doing heavy stuff or gaming, it can spike right up to 90, then drop back to 65, then up to 80 etc. Its even hit 95 this weekend and CoreTemp shut the thing down

Is this just a, resit, clean extra silicon on the CPU, or upgrade to better heatsink/fan?

    Thanks,

    Paul.

As above, check for dust. Those stock heatsinks can easily get blocked with dust, especially after 2 years.

Thanks guys, had the bonnet up today, there was surprisingly little dust in there, I think I had a clear out last year when installing more HDD's. I've gave it a hoover out all the same and an air dust, so hopefully might be better. If not I will look into a bigger fan, there is plenty of space in there for one.
