Looks like Corsair want you to buy one of their big PSUs for overclocking Haswell-E
Some quite impressive graphs there:

though I still don't see why they need a 1200W PSU even with those CPU power consumption figures.

Well for my part, any PC technology that requires a 1200w PSU is a technology I want no part of. I want lower power usage, not electricity guzzlers. Corsair are, therefore, on a loser as regards me. I wouldn't even entertain the thought.

I dread to think what a computer requiring a 1200W PSU would cost to run, long term.
My 625W has lasted me for about 5 years now, and hopefully will last that again.

Shock horror as a manufacturer wants us to buy a much bigger, more expensive psu than is actually needed. The most I have seen my pc draw at the wall is 422w. 1200w would be a triple/quad card setup and most people wouldn't be running that sort of equipment anyway.

Absolutely, though if I could afford a CPU that expensive and had the nerve to overclock it to the point it was sucking ~250W I guess I wouldn't be skimping on the PSU!
Anyway I thought people might find it interesting. Made a nice change to the usual overclock report where reviewers just give the best result they got.

The same is said by many people about my six-core rig, when they still game on a dual-core machine...
But yeah, this is intended for the serious high-end enthusiast.... and those of us with money to burn, of course. :)
As is, since getting into rig-building, I've met an awful lot of people whose primary computer hobby is overclocking the [bleep] out of things and the instant a new GPU comes on the market, they buy four of them without hesitating.
I do think they're a bit nuts, but it's what they're into.
If you want to overclock the holy balls off a top-end rig with quad-SLI, you will need a 1200W PSU.

Oh, I find it interesting, for sure. But kinda like finding a Bugatti Veyron interesting .... without ever being likely to buy one. :D

In terms of Voltage Stability, Seasonic PSUs are unbeatable tho ;)
