Cooling opinions on a OC i5 2500k
Thanks for looking.
I've just recently upgraded my 660ti to a 970GTX and to make sure my CPU didn't bottleneck my GPU I OC'd it from 3.30GHz to 4.40GHz.
My idle temps are 38-42C across the 4 cores and under load I'm looking at 78-82C! This is with a stock cooler in an Antec 900 case. The case as one 200mm fan top, two 120's front and a 120 exhaust. I'm not currently using the side fan holes.
I read that Intel doesn't like their 2500k's going over 72C lol, so it looks like I'm in the market for a new cooler. Nothing expensive and it doesn't need to look good as I can't see it anyway.
I'm not too keen on the over sized air ones like the Noctua NH-D15 and Phanteks PH-TC14PE due to price. Would blowing more air into the case help, maybe adding a couple more side fans?
Maybe the Arctic Cooling Freezer 13:

I really only need to lower the temp by 10C, I'm not after super uber cooling which a lot of other people post help for!!!!!
cheers people..

Where did you read that? I thought it was more like 90-100C.
72C at peak load is fine, but the artic cooling 13 is a great little cooler for mild overclocks.

I have one of these: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/therm...-intel-775-115
With one of these: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/120mm...m-inc-rubber-a
They're sitting over my Q6600 at 3.3GHz, which I imagine will be producing more heat than your 2500K at 4.4GHz, and I hit 50-55'C at max load.. It's super quiet too! And the blades of the fan "pop off" to make cleaning even easier!
Re: Cooling opinions on a OC i5 2500k
Thanks for the replies both and for the links Hoonigan.
kalniel, I can't find the link now, I read it on the Intel forums, think from a mod, I can't find the post now. But they said that the max is 95c and will enter shutdown mode. I'm no where near that but if my 80C is fine then I will stick with the stock HS!
Re: Cooling opinions on a OC i5 2500k
80'C will run fine, but lowering the temperature of the CPU a bit could extend the life of the processor, and also prevent stability issues in the future.
Re: Cooling opinions on a OC i5 2500k
Hoonigan's right - and one thing the stock cooler does seem to suffer from in my experience is dust build up. Tower coolers seem to resist it better, and I do like the idea of detachable blades for easy cleaning.

Temps are bound to go up a bit in the Summer as well...if we get a Summer, that is :)
Re: Cooling opinions on a OC i5 2500k
Thanks guys.
I do clean the internals on occasion to get rid of the dust build up as I've found the Antec 900 does a better job dusting than the Mrs! (Thanks to all the fans on this thing).
I guess I'm OK then but will look to get that Arctic Cooling Freezer 13 before summer. Good news I don't need to spend more money on this for the time being \o/.
Re: Cooling opinions on a OC i5 2500k
May I know what software reads your temp? I use HWMonitor and My max temp is 62 degrees Celsius. I base my temps on the package. I use Cooler Master: Hyper Evo 212, My thermal Paste is Noctua NT-H1. But Whenever I look at MSI afterburner OSD, My temps are 68-70 degrees Celsius.
May I also ask how did you adjust the voltage of your OC'd CPU?

CoreTemp for temp readings.
Also, what motherboard you have? Or CPU?
