Grab the G3258 now and upgrade later?

This is more or less the build

Motherboard: MSI Z97 PC MATE ATX LGA1150 Motherboard (£64.74 @ Aria PC)
Memory: Patriot Signature 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory (£43.45 @ Amazon UK)
Storage: Kingston Fury 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (£72.90 @ Amazon UK)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 650 Ti 1GB Video Card (Purchased For £0.00)
Case: NZXT S340 (White) ATX Mid Tower Case (£57.35 @ Scan.co.uk)
Power Supply: Corsair CX 430W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply (£38.71 @ Amazon UK)
Total: £326.14

I am planning on building (components not set in stone) and my question today is whether I should get the Intel Pentium G3258K Anniversary Edition Processor or save for a [a lot] more time and get an i5? My thinking was that I can get a fairly decent case and a motherboard that will last for a bit and get this cheaper processor (that I've heard is fairly impressive for its price) and grab a better processor (same socket) next time I have some cash on hand.

Does anyone have any experience with doing this sort of thing or have the processor I am currently planning on purchasing - if so could you share your thoughts?

Not much point in buying the G3258 unless you plan to overclock it. I assume you do plan to, or you could save money on a cheaper motherboard. In which case, you'll need to add a reasonable cooler to your component list. :)

Get a cheaper motherboard and a Core i3??

i have a g3258 and a asrock h81-hds and my g3258 is overclocked to 4.8ghz from the stock 3.2 on a corsair h55 all in one cooler and i love this processor

If you're going to get a cheap CPU only to upgrade later get a cheap haswell celeron.

Might as well make it a cheap 'second hand' has well Celeron. Or Pentium. Comes about £20. Or £25(ish). Plenty of performance for the money.

Are you gaming or not? Perhaps this is another route you could go:
Save money and look for a H81 motherboard on sale (Pentium K overclocking is enabled on this chipset)
Stick with the G3258 and overclock it, you will get 4.4GHz or above with ease (you might want to add a decent air cooler, Gelid Tranquillo or Arctic Freezer 7)
Save your money to invest in a better GPU (GTX 760?)

So...what was the end decision? G3258 or i3/i5?
