Tablet, maybe? There's plenty of x86 devices running Android around, but most of them are Atom tablets.

Alternatively, since AOSP is out there and free, perhaps someone decided it was easier to benchmark laptops under Android...? I can't imagine Android has an amazingly well developed driver stack for Raven Ridge...!

    EDIT:

this is another benchmark I'm taking with a pinch of salt - those scores would put it level with a desktop 4C/8T Ryzen 5, and while I could buy that in a single-threaded test (iirc the rumoured burst boost clock was something like 3.7GHz) it simply shouldn't be able to do that at 2.2GHz in the multi-threaded tests...

Maybe but also remember the score is not under Windows and a single CCX design won't have the issues that degrades performance for the desktop CPUs.

It might be a high end tablet but for RR to do that it would have to be quite efficient.

AMD launches the Ryzen mobile series:

Time Spy score is around the same as a GTX950M!

It also appears Acer is probably introducing Ryzen mobile based laptops:

That's a bit of positive news given the rumours it was delayed until 2018!

Heres hoping they get it into some of the more prestigious laptop models (HP Elitebook, Lenovo Thinkpad etc)

    Re: AMD - Zen chitchat

Is it better to upgrade next year when prices are likely to fall a bit more.

Where there have been some gaps in performance of Ryzen 5 on some reviews it came with the caveat that they are new and that developers have to compile applications for Ryzen. How realistic is that for majority of software out there.

    Re: AMD - Zen chitchat

For the desktop CPUs there's definitely some credibility in the 'give developers time' thing - some of the design aspects of the CPU cause it to behave differently than say Intel CPUs of the time. We saw some things like games did receive patches to have programs behave in a way that better suits the CPU. One well-known example was the uneven inter-core latency depending on whether you were staying withing the quad-core CCX or crossing the fabric to the other one - having programs recognise this can help a great deal. Just because AMD chose not to follow the exact design philosophy of Intel which had been the main development target for such games/programs, there were bound to be quirks like that.

However things change, and Intel's HEDT CPUs no longer have even latency between cores since they changed to a mesh rather than a ring bush, much for the same reasons AMD designed their own scalable fabric I imagine.

That's not to say every quirky program will receive updates to allow it to work perfectly with these CPUs, they won't, but there's a great deal of incentive to get current, high performance programs to work properly for obvious reasons, not least because it's not just AMD CPUs affected by this sort of thing.

WRT your question - I assume you mean the new APUs, in which case it's hard to say, but given they're using 'only' a single CCX, they should have none of those latency quirks of the 'big' Ryzen CPU (Zeppelin). All CPUs can benefit from targeted tuning, but that's not to say there would be anything wrong with performance, in the same way a program written back in Sandy Bridge days could likely undergo some tuning to squeeze more performance from Skylake, but it's not like it's going to run slowly if it's left alone.

If you mean desktop Ryzen, I'm surprised by how low prices have already dropped!

    Re: AMD - Zen chitchat

I think the major issue is the price of DDR4,TBH. Zen+ is out next year, but exactly when is hard to say. OTH,if you are stuck with only an Athlon II X2,even Ryzen would be a huge upgrade!

    Re: AMD - Zen chitchat

Does AMD have plans on changing the socket.

Was looking at both A10 and R3, latter has better upgrade options 18 months down the line which will all be cheaper as well.

As far as I'm aware, AM4 should be in use for a while yet - it supports both CPUs and APUs/those with integrated graphics, hence the display outputs present on Ryzen boards.

That is the advantage if you get a platform at the start. You get options later, however Ryzen for a lot of people still represents a whole new system and the loss of Windows 7 as well.

That was always the case for the "pro" line of the APUs, people just took the pro date and ran with it.

Assassins Creed:Origin really seems to like more cores and decent single performance.

Having said that is the first time I have seen a Threadripper CPU convincingly beat a Ryzen 7 1800X in a game.

It seems to be a more CPU taxing area of the game - I think it has been noticed in a few instances in some games,Ryzen seems to do better in more taxing scenarios. AFAIK,DF tested the previous AC game and Ryzen 5 seemed to be able to have more consistent performance in more demanding areas that a KL Core i5 or a CFL Core i5.
