With other companies although specifications can change there is more chance you can do some research and get something which should work OK.

    Edit!!

Also it would not surprise me one bit if in a few years, the memory manufacturers get caught again for price fixing, etc. I remember a decade ago when I built my first Core2 based rig,DDR2 prices also shot up like this, and 4GB of DDR2 cost me £200ish and that was actually cheap for the time. Then they got fined for a previous case of price fixing and the prices interestingly got much better within not a huge amount of time,IIRC!
Scan can be especially unpredictable with the revisions. I bought one set of ram, and got a later revision; a year or two later I bought the exact same set of ram and got the first revision (that happened to be a slightly different shade of blue)

I have fallen into the “order straight from crucial” habit with RAM. Although it’s been a while since I bought new stuff.

Just checked over there and... hoooweeee £200 for 2x16GB of high speed DDR4

Pretty sure all the FX chips were black edition, just at the time the 8350 was top of the range so I figured it got you the best binned silicon.

I wouldn't touch Windows 7 any more though, the world has moved on.

Looking at the AMD website it does say 2667MHz ram for the 1200, but it says the same for 1800X as well.

    https://www.amd.com/en/products/cpu/amd-ryzen-3-1200

Edit: Found a review where they overclocked a 1200 to use fast-ish (3200) ram

Hm, seems Ebuyer have reduced some Ryzen prices:
    1500X @ £120
    1600 @ £136
    1600X @ £166
    1700 @ £207
    1700X @ 228
    1800X @ £307

Most of these found via deals on HUKD:
    https://www.hotukdeals.com/tag/computers-new

Unsure if they are misprices or the start of an official price cut.

Yeah, so did I after I asked that. All Ryzen processors "officially" top out at 2666MHz, but we all know they benefit from faster RAM improving the inter-CCX communication speed.

The review I read basically said "Yes, you could run a Ryzen 3 with faster RAM and it would improve performance, but given the extra cost it's probably not worth it". Thing is I see no point running one with memory slower than 2666MHz, since we know it would reduce performance, and once you're looking at 2666MHz DDR4 the jump to 3000/3200 really isn't that big...

I was reading that quite a few am3/3+ heatsinks are compatible with AM4 which is a bonus. My current one looks like it will also be compatible.

Because the 1500X was already over my planned budget

He's not an overclocker or tweaker, and he doesn't do any serious productivity work. I can just about absorb the extra money for the 1500X over the 1300X. Stretching to the 1600 would've meant compromising on either the motherboard or RAM.

More the case if you had bought the Ryzen 5 1600 and an Asus motherboard, you would have gotten two game codes, for some major games like Destiny 2 which you could have sold off.

I would have bought the Ryzen 5 1600 myself if it were not for the case Ryzen seems to suck with FO4. Even ARMA 3 which is single thread dependent seems OK on Ryzen,ie,its around Haswell level, but I still cannot figure out why Fallout 4 seems more like SB/IB in the game. I also like Skyrim too,and I can't figure out why AMD hasn't noticed this especially since they are collaborating with Bethesda now. By extension it might mean ESO is also has a problem too(different engine though).

    Aaaargh!

AMD Ryzen 5 1500X Quad Core AM4 CPU/Processor with Wraith Spire 95W cooler

Unfortunately, the above item is currently out of stock.

The item(s) has now been removed from your order and you have been fully refunded. Please note; refunds can take 3 to 5 working days to clear.
So either I wasn't quick enough or it was a mis-price. Very frustrating.

EDIT: Oddly, ebuyer have pulled all their listings for Ryzen 5 and 7 from their website...

Amazon had the Ryzen 5 1600 on pre-order until earlier in the day.

OTH,if you have Prime you can get the Ryzen 5 1400 for £110:
