    Re: AMD - Zen chitchat

Not strictly CPU stuff, but... AMD's RTG is working with Intel to build a new flagship, at the present time called Project Canis. Quite possibly one of the most desirable matchups in my book: Radeon design on Intel fabs.

It looks like a decidedly high end card with the specs, power consumption and price to boot.

    Article: https://wccftech.com/amd-project-can...joint-venture/

One interesting thing mentioned is the targeting of gamers by tying purchases to Steam accounts with over 100 hours and 100 dollars worth of games. It sounds like a reasonable idea IMO given how ubiquitous Steam is but as always, there are going to be those left out in the cold. As someone with a Freesync monitor and a big Steam library however, its more amenable than AMD's previous bundling of cards with Freesync monitors.

    Re: AMD - Zen chitchat

The steam thingy is a nice idea, but wouldn't work so well in practice. Miners are happy to pay >$100 more for a high end card (as evidenced by GPU prices), and 100 hours of labour in the third world isn't going to cost much (assuming they even get a person to give actual gameplay, and don't just have a game or two idling)

    Re: AMD - Zen chitchat

Perhaps. It would be another 100 dollars they have to make up for before breaking even, which they might not be able to resell as easily as the GPU.

Vega is back in stock in scan, for all models! Still silly money (£630 for V56, £700 for V64), but it's a start

    Re: AMD - Zen chitchat

I paid £360 (?) for my release Vega 56 and I still question the value. It'll last though, with current gen consoles and most last all AMD. Still, it's in for RMA

Don't spend £630 on Vega 56 is my advice, get a 580/480/390 s/h and chill for a bit. You don't need 4k to enjoy a game (though high refresh 1080p is certainly a value add).

Vega56 at under £400 was a reasonable buy - anything over that is not worth it,especially with Nvidia cards starting to drop in price too.

From wccftech so about as reliable as me putting guesses under 10 buckets in a circle around me then spinning around blindfolded, picking one, then flipping a coin and only if it lands heads I use that guess and if not I spin again.

EDIT: "The card will be rocking HBM4 memory". u wot m8. The fool is strong in this one

It is the obvious choice for me though, and at £360 I would buy one but I always wondered if the sub £400 was an unmaintainable promo price so I expect to crack closer to £400.

An RX580 is minimum spec for VR and only 50% faster than my current R9 380, for a significant upgrade I need either Vega 56 or a 1070 and Nvidia aren't being very lovable atm (again).

    Interesting video (IMO).

Main takeaway is that AMD are already designing/working on Zen 5.

If they keep to the yearly cadences, that would mean Zen is here until 2022.
