Hello Mate,
Like you I've just completed a 8700K build using the H100i v2, although I'm currently running 5.1Ghz. CPU is currently idling at mid 40's and maxed at 87 running XTU.
Unfortunately I cant remember what the idle temps where before I OC'ed, if you want I can reset back to default when I am back home on boxing day and run XTU again?

I'm thinking about 8700K with "Noctua NH-D15 6 heatpipe with Dual NF-A15 140mm fans" to by build, as I read that even better than some liquid builds, what i care about is to be less noise, so hopefully It will be.

That seems like a very high temp to idle at. It might be worth taking off the pre applied thermal paste and putting some new stuff on.

It might be worth checking the vCore setting in the BIOS & CPU-Z. Are you using the 'Auto' setting for vCore? I know some motherboards such as those by Asus are a bit over generous with the voltages applied via the Auto settings.
Otherwise, as Outwar010 suggests, there may be a problem with your cooler - either the fluid isn't circulating properly, or it's not seated properly on the CPU.

Thanks, don't want you going to the trouble of resetting your system though really appreciate the offer. Your temps overclocked give me an idea something isn't right with mine.

Yes voltage is set to auto at the moment, the only thing I have changed in the BIOS is to enable XMP for the memory, but then I disabled the MCE that was set after that for the CPU so the CPU BIOS settings *should* be default. I'll look into the vCore settings a bit, this build will be my first time attempting an overclock so a tad new to this area.
I've taken off my cooler and re-seated, idle has dropped by about 5c so think something may have been not right there. Going to order some better thermal compound and remove the stuff that came pre-applied to the cooler and see if that can drop any further.

It's a great cooler (using it now) but I would look around for some first hand experience I would expect an H100i to be considerably better.

A well designed AIO can be negligibly louder at idle (0.3 dB is nothing), while also being almost noticeably quieter under load (1.7 dB is hard to distinguish). So it depends on your use case as to which you'd like to emphasise.
(H100i seems to be louder in every way than the NH-D15, but as it's a different test setup I'm loathe to compare it to the S24)

It is quite high...
I have the 8700k also and using a similar cooler as yours - corsair h110i. Pre applied thermal paste wouldn't be the problem as they are good quality. What case are you using - probably because of the air flow? Or perhaps it's a cheap motherboard that you're using?
Mine runs idle @ around 25-30c, and 65-75c during stress tests, that's after overclocking to 5ghz. If you get to 80c without even overclocking it, let alone to 5ghz, I'd say that's a bit worrying.
