    1700X Cooler

Due to a change of direction I have my mind set on one of the stock AMD coolers for the 1700X, the Wraith Max seems to be incredibly difficult to find and the places that do have them seem to be "virtual" stock after trying to order.

Does anyone know if the Wraith Spire will work for the 1700X. I don't plan to do any overclocking.

I've seen one it's pretty beefy really. I wouldn't worry if your case airflow is halfway decent. You should clock it to 4 on something else, though, like my 1700 + NH-D15! (occasionally)

    Amazon sell the Wraith Max:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/AMD-Wraith-.../dp/B074RNSCJM

    Its cheaper here:

The retailer is located in Europe though.

    Re: 1700X Cooler

The Spire is rated to 95W, so should be fine. It's obviously not going to provide as much cooling as the Max, but it should be adequate to keep the processor running at it's nominal clock speeds

The only thing I can think of that might be an issue is whether the cooling will be sufficient to allow XFR to kick in - the Max is meant to be 140W rated and should therefore provide additional headroom for XFR.

Also, be aware that the Spire has a screw-through fitting type (same as the Wraith Stealth) and the screws can be a little fiddly to get into the backplate. The Max uses the old-style levers-&-clips fitting.

Madness, I got a great performing liquid cooling loop for £50 and it fits my 1700x perfectly. Overclocked, overvolted get temps that don't exceed 65.

Dear lord, why on earth spend so much on that cooler?

There are so many cheaper cooler that would do the job just fine, especially if not overclocking

    Re: 1700X Cooler

Thanks for the replies, I never get any email notification of any!

I liked the look of the Spire cooler and it did get quite good reviews but finding them seems to be quite difficult.

I did see the alza place but with postage on top it came in at around £50 so have been umming and arring about it.

Airflow in case is pretty good, its a BeQuiet SilentBase 800

Have been looking at some Noctua's as well with the AM4 bracket.

Blaineoliver, I am moving from a AIO cooler so wouldn't be looking for another.

    Re: 1700X Cooler

Yes that is quite possible, was only a few months ago they said they would be selling it standalone.

Not to worry, looking a bit further afield at other coolers now. Around the £40-£60 mark.

A couple of Noctuas look interesting.

It looks like the Wraith Max has had a price drop down to $45:

Thats not a bad price considering, however stock anywhere seems to be virtually non-existent. A couple of places that showed as having stock actually didn't :/

    Re: 1700X Cooler

I got this one for AM4, and I'd recommend it: http://thermalright.com/product/axp-200-muscle/

Keeps it cool, the fan is quiet, and not too heavy either. There's blurb on the thermalright main page saying how recent ones come with AM4 brackets (or they'll send one out). I asked Scan but they didn't think theirs would, but took a punt and it actually did. Price was considerably lower than Amazon and elsewhere, but out of stock at the mo: https://www.scan.co.uk/products/ther...pu-full-nickel

That looks a pretty nice cooler. However I am currently looking at either the Noctua NH-U12S or the CRYORIG H7. Not sure which though!
