Best Air Cooler for an Intel Core i7 7820X
What would be the best air cooler for an Intel Core i7 7820X (Socket 2066).
I am edging towards a Noctua NH-D15, but am a bit concerned about the clearance for the two banks of RAM on the X299 Motherboards. Anyone had any experience with such a cooler on such a MB?
I do not want to go for a water cooler as I am a bit nervous about those.
Given this nad given the heat generated by an i7 2066 chip should I avoid this platform all together and go for a Ryzen or Consumer Intel (Non X CPU) setup? Thanks.

I've got some experience with that CPU cooler, but I don't know which motherboard you're using.. What's the model?
I imagine it'll probably be fine, unless you're using really tall RAM. Noctua are, in my opinion, one of the best companies around; they get stuff right!

What are you doing with the CPU? That'll influence whether you need a big chip, or if a small chip would be sufficient

Thanks very much for taking the time to answer my post. It is much appreciated.
I do a bit of Video Editing with Premiere Pro. Right now I am on an old AMD FX8370 chip and am planning to upgrade - I have not got any new hardware yet.
On consideration and given the problems with the heat and the RAM clearance - not to mention the cost - I have decided to go with the new AMD Ryzen Zen+ platform when it is released in a couple of months.
Thanks.

Good call. I'm running 1700 @ 4.0 and it's a bit of a monster. you should get 4.2-4.3 with improved IPC with decent cooling. Good enough :)

The non-X series CPUs come with a decent stock cooler too.
