I thought this meant that only old processors were effected, but the original Core series didn't have an 8th generation. So whilst they've listed 45 & 32nm i3,5,7 processors explicitly, it seems all Core CPUs are effected? Looks like my old Nehalem might be ok...

Yeah, but they probably won't patch the older ones.

Is that actually useful? I mean if they don't patch all the processors, and assuming that people could do something or anything, what would be left to do? I don't get it, it would have to be perfect already, and presumably these patch functions if they cause either degraded performance or more performance don't actually matter?

In other News, I am very happy not to have an *** ntel CPU at this point. The media seems to have ignored this problem, largely because almost all software (bar GRC) is so bad few could actually notice change

Don't think AMD are immune from these bugs. They've been attracting less attention, but they have been affected by some already.

AMD said they weren't affected by this one or by Meltdown, only Spectre.
